Can anyone recommend a good Web site to play chess for free besides Yahoo? Maybe Yahoo's not even that good, I don't know. It's the only site I've ever played on. I can find other free sites easy, I just don't know which of them are worth my time.

Cup of Chess is my favorite. Really smooth interface, no major complaints. They keep talking about charging, but it's been in beta (translation: free) for at least a year now.

I like chess and I'm not bad at it, I think, but the last time I played online the other dude was trash talking me. In other sports I've got no problem with that, but it was just....so odd. Haven't cared to try again. Is that normal or did I just catch some freak?

If it was Yahoo, it was normal. Half the people I play against (more in backgammon) trash talk while they win, and accuse you of cheating if they're losing.

Yeah, this is exactly why I want to stop using Yahoo.

This site looks pretty good, though I've only signed up and looked around, not yet played. I'm on there with the same username I have here if you want to play :)

I play at redhotpawn.com. You play it correspondence style, rather than having to be over the board at the same time. Nice clean interface, lots of features if you become a paid member but still a good site for free users. Feel free to send me a game invite. User name: spiffie

I signed up at Cup of Chess too, as ekedolphin. I'd love to play one of y'all some time.

Years back I would play on Yahoo and I like to think I was slightly above average (Sanders). I used to use the nickname "Spoiler". Every once in a while I'd knock off a guy rated much higher than me.

Chess story: my radio station was having a "Day in the Park" years ago that featured a chance to sit down against the local Chess Club. The first game I tried out my usual opening, and as I thought, this guy hammered me.

The second game I went head-to-head, move-to-move and chased down and captured his queen. The gentleman said "Okay" and stood up for a second, then set back down. It was then I knew I was dead. He proceeded to take every piece I had.

He asked for another game, I politely declined.

NBA Live 2002 doesn't have three way trades? I have NBA Live 2001 and it does have three way trades. It doesn't have any the rest of you what you said as far as I know, all good ideas.
