Also, as an aside, the Expos are 16-16 in the same time period since trading Floyd.

So the Marlins sucked with Floyd, the Expos tanked with Floyd, and now the Sox are in the tank with Floyd. Hmmm, maybe someone has got some bad juju around his karma. Maybe he should sign with the Yankees next year...of course if he did that he'd win the Triple Crown and hit 75 homers out of spite to us Yankeehaters. | Jubuki

You mean there are people in this world that hate the beloved pinstripes? Unbelievable!
I thought they would have stayed in it with only Pedro and Lowe, sorta like an incarnation of "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain!" Wakefield, IMO, is one of the most underrated pitchers in MLB. I woulda thought that those two guys would have carried their team like Schilling and the Unit, coupled with Nomar, Manny, and Floyd. That looked like a solid get. Damon too, a good signing.
All in all, within a half hour, the one-time 5 game lead becomes a 9.5 game deficit. Boo-friggin-hoo.

As much as I'd love to see the Yanks get burned, the Jeff Weaver trade is enough to hold me over.
I don't think Floyd's the problem, though. He gets on base, provided some more power, and has acquitted himself pretty nicely. The problem is the team isn't playing well in the clutch. A lot of their runs came in those blowouts, when they didn't need the scoring. Lowe's been pitching great, but they've given him almost 8 runs of support per game. I don't know Wakefield's, Burkett's, or Castillo's numbers offhand, but I'd imagine they aren't enough. | jfkfc

Granted, he sucked pretty bad in his starts for the Yanks, he has been rather good coming in from the pen (ERA since July has been about two and three quarters). I know they didn't get him to be a reliever, but I won't justify the deal to begin with (Lilly fan). I will be glad to know that Cliff, Manny, Pedro, and Rickey can watch the Yanks on TV this October. That will hold me over!

| #8 Posted on 6.9.02 0930.00 | Will go through the list of reasons 1) Burkett has pitched like garbage since his 'I won't play in the All-Star Game because its in Bud Selig's ballpark'. Earth to John, you weren't going anyway. 2) Nomar was so concerned about how the future labor settlement would affect Little Leaguers, he forgot how to hit in the clutch. 3) Tony Clark couldn't get a hit if he was playing t-ball and their were no defensive players on the field. 4) The manager is Fog Horn Leghorn on downers. 5) Trot Nixon is a choke artist 6) Ugie became Slocumb 7) The curse of Bob Kurtz attacks for the third straight summer. 8) They haven't developed a starting pitcher since Bruce Hurst.
Thank you Mr. Wanz for the check, now you get an AWA World Title Reign. But be careful, my boy Greg is a heat machine. | count olaf

| #9 Posted on 6.9.02 1753.39 | The Red Sox tanked because they always tank. That's what they do. Good in April, May, and June and all the fools in New England get really irritating with their misguided arrogant crap talk. Then it all falls to pieces in the summer and the hypocritical fans turn their back on their "beloved" team. They just lasted a little longer than usual this year.

| #10 Posted on 7.9.02 0829.51 | The Red Sox are in the tank? I am a diehard Red Sox fan and if the ship goes down, I will go down with it. There is still a chance at the wild card. The Yanks and Sox have the "easy teams" for Sept. but ten games are probably too many to overcome. I think the west teams will beat on each other and the Red Sox can blow their way into the playoffs by getting wins over the Triple A Devil Rays (on the shoulders Wakefield and Hawaiian Thunder).

Losing the series opener to Toronto was not the way to start, though. And too bad we have Burkett under contract for another year... this page has a list of all the Sox players who will be free agents or abitration eligible next season. Be interesting to see who will still be around.
