I have two comic book subscriptions: one to Ultimate Spidey and one to The Ultimates.
In recent months, I have been deluged with Ultimate Spiderman. I have the April issue already and for the past couple of months, there have been two issues per month. It is great! I'm always getting this book!

Then...The Ultimates...

Since subscribing in September, I have received TWO WHOLE ISSUES. The last one is the "November" issue. I called Marvel today and the lady said, "Oh, it's not a monthly book...you are signed up for twelve issues and you'll get all of them."
So that begged the question: "Well have I missed any? The last I got was the November issue."
Her reply: "That's the last one that has been written. They have had problems developing a storyline for the next issue. It's finished though, and should ship soon."

WTF?!

The writers of Ultimate Spiderman can dash off two books per month, but the writers of The Ultimates can only do one per five-month period? They have one of the best, most original and thought-provoking storylines around, for crying out loud! How difficult could it be to further develop the adventures of Thor, Ironman, Capt. America, etc., especially in the new books!?

JEEZ!

Yeah, the Ultimates is constantly late. I have no idea why- I mean, Ultimate Spider-man is on time constantly because it is perhaps Marvel's top seller.

The Ultimates, on the other hand, has come out with like 2 issues in the past 6 months.

Who knows why this happens... but it is not all that uncommon in comics, especially among certain Marvel titles. I personally love The Ultimates title, but I get more than enough other comics to keep me satisfied. I'd say- be patient.

It's usually late because Bryan Hitch is usually late. I read an interview with Mark Millar a week or so ago asking him why the books he writes are always late (The Authority was the last big offender) and he said something along the lines of "I work with slow artists."

The Diamond Top 20 selling (ORDERED) comics is consistently:
[Using the February 2003 list as an example]
1. Batman #612 [DC]
2. Ultimate War #4 (of 4) [Marvel]
3. The Ultimates #9 [Marvel]
4. Amazing Spider-Man #50 [Marvel]
5. Ultimate Spider-Man #36 [Marvel]
6. New X-Men #137 [Marvel]
7. Ultimate X-Men #29 [Marvel]
8. Uncanny X-Men #419 [Marvel]
9. Wolverine #186 [Marvel]
10. Transformers: The War Within #5 [Dreamwave]
11. X-Treme X-Men #21 [Marvel]
12. JLA #78 [Marvel]
13. Daredevil #43 [Marvel]
14. Incredible Hulk #50 [Marvel]
15. Daredevil #44 [Marvel]
16. Spider-Man: Blue #6 (of 6) [Marvel]
17. Avengers #64 [Marvel]
18. Captain America #9 [Marvel]
19. Green Arrow #21 [DC]
20. Fantastic Four #66 [Marvel]

Of these, 3 of the top 7 are Ultimate titles. And have been. Consistently. Marvel has a stranglehold on the market (17 of the top 20 ain't bad, kids) and even though the Ultimates ARE constinently late...the comic ROCKS. Bryan Hitch's wife had some medical problems, so it's understandable that the comics are late. Ultimates #9 is due out early next month...late still, but heck, it's a good comic. And Parts Unknown...they have had to change their story twice. Once because it was Ultron and Joe Queseda nixed the idea, and now because they had to tweak things. Let's cut 'em some slack. As long as the comic rules all, I'll handle the wait. But if it starts to suck, so help me...

My favorites were WETWORKS which if I remember right, it something like 15 or 16 months between issues #3 and #4, and RED STAR, which is the most beautiful book drawn on the market is consistantly 3 or 4 months between issues.

You're gonna love this though, if you ordered a sub through Marvel for Ultimate Spider-Man, you will be getting 18 issues for the year. They've been over shipping on titles because Joe (MOTHER FUCKING!) Quessada has been on a rampage getting people to get far enough ahead on storyline that if something DOES happen to some one, there won't be a discontinuation of the books street dates. According to Marvel Online, they already have the next 8 issues in the bag of Ultimate Spidey, and there's no stopping them, so he's got a bunch of OTHER books doing the same thing.

There was an overship list over on ComicBookResources of what books you can expect to get more then 12 issues of this year. We're getting 18 issues of Amazing Spider-Man this year, and 16 issues of Captain America, so this is most certainly a GOOD thing.

Ultimate Spider-man comes out twice every month, but Bendis lingers his writing like no other. Ultimates lateness I think is mainly due to Bryan Hitch's artwork I believe.

Honestly, I don't see what the fascination with the ultimates titles are. I can't stand the extremely hip dialogue laden with an abundance of stupid celebrity and hollywood jokes which I think writers put in there to make themselves seem hip and "with it." And quite frankly the Ultimates and the Ultimate X-men are just scum bags. People tell me they are more like REAL people, but I don't buy it. The x-men are superficial whining brats. The Ultimates are worse than the bad guys they are supposed to fight. the Hulk EATS nurses, excuse me? Does marvel even edit their books?

I thought the idea for the ultimate titles was to bring the famous marvel characters back to their roots without 40 years of continuity to bog down the stories, to start fresh or whatever Jemas and Quesada were saying. Didn't they also say the ultimates were supposed to be all ages titles and bring in new younger readers? Young kids should not read ultimates or ultimate x-men because there is nothing redeeming about any of them. Is ultimates how real people would act if they had such power? Maybe, but I remember in a recent issue of the regular Avengers series, two avengers got in a stupid scuffle. Captain America broke things up, and Antman said they were "only human." Cap responded with thus, "Wrong. You're an Avenger..."

I also get those books as well as GI Joe, its starting to get lame, but started out good, Amazing Spidy cause Stryneski is God, Gen 1 Transformers, the mini-series not that Armada crap, Green Arrow, I followed Kevin Smith there, but the new writer is a way better and Batman, cause its Jim Fucking Lee. I enjoy Ultimate Spidy, because it shows Peter as kid while Amaing is more of an adult book. Both books are good in their own right however, I think Ult. Spidy was a bit of a let down when they didn't kill MJ in the Green Goblin storyline. I thought the purpose of Ultimates was to shake things up like kill some characters off and such. I am a disappointed they introduced Venom this early instead of other villians, but I have to say this is origin of Venom is much better than Secret Wars.

Ultimates is a mix bag with me. I love the writing and how dark the book is. However, I hate the characters. I find no redeeming value in any of them expect maybe Captain America. Which surprises me since I find his character the most bland in all of the Marvel Universe, yet I enjoy his outlook on life than the others. The rest of either too America is first(Fury, Wasp, Black Widow) or just fucked u beyond any hope of connection (Hulk, Antman, Iron Man). I am hoping with all the parralls between Ultimate War and today's society, the Ultimates get their heads handed to them by the X-Men. I am just waiting for some of those characters to die like Black Widow, Fury and Hawkeye, so we can either focus in on Thor or add some new Avengers who are not sheep. I do have to say the alien storyline is not winning me over. I'll keep reading the book, because I think they are doing quality work if it ends right.

A Fan- Highly recommend Powers.

Errr.... I assume you mean 16 out of 20, since u accidently marked JLA as a Marvel book, which it isn't. Still, that's a great win for The House of Ideas.
