I made a Snowman last night. He was quite pleased by my craftmanship. Supposedly, you can get Snowman furniture, carpets, and wallpaper from them, but I'm not exactly sure how.
Caught a new fish. The Stringfish. Worth 15,000 bells.
Stepped inside an igloo that one of my townspeople built.
The one sister that does the sewing now will talk to me.

| #4 Posted on 3.1.03 2158.24 | I play about 30 minutes a day. I go around, talk to my villagers, pull weeds, do a chore or two, and check out Nookingtons.
Lately I've been playing more now that I'm Winter Break. I also got two snowman furniture pieces, the Table and the Lamp. =D
The trick to getting the snowman right is to build the bottom snowball so the top of it comes up to about the bottom of your hat when you're standing next to it and make the head about half that. If you got a snowman figure from Tortimer on Snow Day you've gotta make one that looks fairly close to that.

| #5 Posted on 4.1.03 0426.56 | How many peices do you need for the snowman? I've found one solitary piece (that always breaks when I roll it down a hill and it hits something) and once I found two little pieces next to each other, although I accidentally hit one with my shovel before I could do anything with it?
I set the clock to watch the New Years Eve countdown in the game. It was cute, although I still have the problem that whenever there's a timer I expect Chris Jericho to appear at the end...

| #6 Posted on 4.1.03 0829.06 | I turn it on every couple days or so. The strangest thing happened yesterday. I was trading with one of the villiagers who moved into an igloo and she gave me something called DUMMY. Not "a dummy", just DUMMY. I took it home and it was a big white triangle (not a dunce cap, but a long triangle laying flat and hovering about a foot off the ground), with the word "DUMMY" written on it in Japanese. (Well, technically, "DAAMI"). Very... odd.

That's just a little glitch item Nintendo accidently left in there. It won't hurt your game, but it doesn't really do anything either. It doesn't even show up in the catalog and Nook won't buy it off of you, he'll take it for free though.
And there's two pieces to the snowman.

| #8 Posted on 4.1.03 1754.50 | OK, the Snowman mails you the stuff. So far, I got the couch and wardrobe.
I got the Snowboard and the Chowder from a townsperson in the igloo.
I, too, do the 30 minutes/day thing. Go around, pull weeds, talk to each townsperson at least once, hit up Nook's, and dig up & mail fossils

| #10 Posted on 5.1.03 2207.46 | He only mails you an item if you made him perfectly. I made one that wasn't perfect, and the snowdude didn't mail me anything. Imperfect snowmen will also disappear by the time the next day rolls around. Also, the "perfect" snowmen will only mail you 1 item after they're made. You don't get any additional items from 1 snowman.
Also, hit up the igloo. You can get special stuff in there from the townsperson that Nook can't get. Among the things I've gotten are the snowboard, sleigh, snowbunny, fireplace, bowl of chowder, igloo model.
Plus, you can also have the chance to sell ordinary items to the townsperson for huge sums of bells (the most I've gotten was 29,000+ bells for 1 item, IIRC).

I've picked it up again after a 7 week absence. And boy, do the villagers bitch at you when you haven't played in awhile. My town is also overrun with weeds and it's snowing.
I still like Animal Crossing, but I'm increasingly struggling with the lack of a point to the game. It's fun collecting stuff and doing my little chores, but the lack of a mission is kind of wearing on me. I like fishing and collecting fossils for the museum, but then what? I get a furniture set for the house, and then what? I get a reward and move on. The e-reader thing kinda seems like a rip-off, too. I like the NES emulator, but it doesn't hold my attention for too long. I can interact with my fellow citizens, but only in limited ways. I guess I would like it if there were some sort of experience system, then you could build up your character and get new abilities to use in town. Something like shooting fish with laser beams that shoot from your eyes instead of having to fish. But I guess I'm thinking in terms of an action game, and this ain't that.
I noticed villagers mentioning something about possibly building a movie theater. That would be cool, at least it would be something different. Anyone get that, yet?

Yeah, some of the villagers have said that to me too ... But then again, they've mentioned things that are similar ("This town would be so cool with a basketball court!"; "This town needs a bookstore!"; "Why don't we have a park around here?"), so I assume they're just feeding the player a line of B.S. to pique their curiousity
As for me, I too give AC the old "half-hour a day" treatment after work ... There's still some cool items left that need collecting, but I agree that the lack of direction in the game leaves much to be desired; after paying off the debt for the biggest house you can get, there are no real objectives left.
Although, I have heard that Tom Nook will build an even bigger store (Nookington's?) if a player from another village comes to "visit" ... Has anyone done this yet?

| #15 Posted on 6.1.03 1810.38 | I got Nookington's by using my other memory card to make another town and having that person travel over. (Granted, I did it before I knew that Nookington's existed or you needed a second person to visit) but if you have a spare memory card (or rather, a spare 57 blocks), or know someone who does, then you can get it that way. Of course, I also *cheat* by adjusting the time to be daylight when I play in the evening, so take my post with a grain of salt.

| #17 Posted on 9.1.03 1231.02 | My biggest beef in this game was the letter writing. I would have to spend all my time writing letters to the asshole animals in my town, and by the time I finished that, I was sick of playing. And if I went WITHOUT writing them for one blooming day, they would all get pissed at me. At least give me a "form letter" option that takes less time...

| #18 Posted on 9.1.03 1302.44 | The animals never cared what you say to them. They just care that you write them a letter, and if you send them a gift then they will reply with a gift back. I think I once sent an animal a piece of garbage (cuz I didn't know what else to do with it), and I got a piece of fruit back, or something like that. The only way in which it matters what you send them is that they will show those letters to other people playing the game.
High tide for the time being. |
