They've gotta have a payoff for it ... right? Please say they have to have a payoff for it.
Anyway, assuming they do, anyone have any guesses or more solid info on what the finale for the Invitational is going to be? I must say, I still look back fondly on the introduction of Earthquake during the Dino Bravo-Ultimate Warrior "workout" feud, as Earthquake was just this fat man from the audience Bravo picked to sit on their backs while doing pushups (he crushed Warrior, of course). I assume WWE is going to use this to introduce a new character. Any info on who, and when?
That would be awesome- if Smackdown! is down here in Miami and Kurt's Invitational results only on him getting his ass whupped by The Rock.
Or if it happens at Wrestlemania... but then that would mean the Rock has really gone to L.A. and no longer considers Miami his hometown- which would, I have to admit- really bring a tear to my eye. Dont leave us Rock!
Thats one possibility... but on the other hand, who knows what will happen? What kind of freakin' fool could be introduced...the possibilities are endful. unless AFan knows for sure, in which case Im just blabbing.
I was hoping that after Angle's comments at Survivor Series (about how he could defeat Michaels) they would have HBK challenge him during a SmackDown in Texas, culminating in a match at WrestleMania.

A guy can dream, right?
I wanted that too, but unless they want Edge to do double-duty at the Rumble, there isn't any way to get the Edge/Shawn Michaels match on PPV before Wrestlemania, hence a Kurt Angle/Shawn Michaels match there would be all but impossible.
It has to be someone they're willing to pair Angle with on a long-term basis. (You think Kurt is crazy enough to actually give up his medal? I don't think so.) That doesn't necessarily mean it can't be somebody already on the roster, though - just that I wouldn't bet on Rock.
Anybody know if they're planning to run Smackdown through Oklahoma any time soon?

They've had people work a match and the Rumble before (Piper had the two-title opportunity in '92) so it's not completely out of the question to do Edge/Michaels at the Rumble. But it's highly unlikely. They'll probably do something similar to Michaels/Jericho at the 2003 Rumble, where one is eliminated by the other, and the eliminated person returns to eliminate the other. Confused?

Not to say that there won't be a payoff, but I understood they were doing this whole "local challenge" thing just to keep Angle out there on a weekly basis without having to take a lot of bumps.
Rock would definitely be a nice payoff, especially given that they need to make some marquee matches, and these two haven't wrestled since (I think) Vengeance a couple of years back. HBK would be nice, too (and I think that might have been the plan as recently as Survivor Series, where they hinted at it backstage), but Michaels does have a pretty cool program at the moment.
So long as we're talking about someone candidates for a one-time return... what about Austin?
But what's the point of having Rock or Austin or HBK be the end of it? Logically, you'd want to give it to a guy on the verge of becoming a big star in order to give him the rub. Making it 1 of those 3 guys just renders pointless the months and months of the hometown challenges.

Making a decent match for WrestleMania, in my opinion. I understand what you're saying about making a new star, but realistically, WWE isn't going to put Angle in there with, say, Paul London, at a WrestleMania anyways. So I'd rather it be a big name that adds to the hype....
Upcoming Smackdown Cities: Montreal [1/18], Little Rock [1/25], San Jose [Monday 1/31 RAW/Smackdown dual taping]...and Albany [3/1]. That's all that's on WWE.com.
I don't think it's going anywhere.

I mentioned it before elsewhere, but this really could be seen as a variation of the program Chavo was doing for a bit that was to bring in Matt Cappotelli. No reason that can't be the case here.

Where does Dan Puder come from? If you want to lift a newcomers profile , why not have Angle go close to losing his medal to Puder. This could set Puder up IMO
There is a history already and it gives it some legitimacy
Payoff? I still wonder if they really had an idea for how they might end this angle when they started it. My guess is they figured out a way to keep Kurt on TV without taking too many bumps, as BULLDOG said, but I don't think they actually had any kind of culmination in mind. They will likely stretch it out as long as they want to keep Angle on TV, or until an absolute AWESOME payoff presents itself.
Anyone know where Chris "Abyss" Park is from? If the WWE is considering hiring him, winning the Angle Invitational could be a great introduction to the company.

I remember Meltzer commenting on this very early in the concept, pointing out that the second Angle Invitational was in Cappotelli's hometown of Rochester. In other words, they've already had the chance to do this if that is what they were planning to do.
The rules for the KAI have changed, since now Angle says that he'll give the medal to whomever can last more than three minutes with him.
So, in true WWE fashion, this gives them the opportunity to 'put someone over' Angle without really putting them over since they wouldn't be beating Kurt, just lasting three minutes.

Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Isn't Puder supposed to be from Sunnyvale? Which, for all intents & purposes, is San Jose. Where the double-taping (Raw & SD on the same night.) is happening the night after Royal Rumble. And Puder is in the Rumble, so will have visibility from that.
I'm not convinced that Puder's ready for a high exposure position (He certainly doesn't talk well enough!), but they might go that route.
