Ok, now with that joke out of the way, I'm here to bring information that might be important to those of you using anti-virus software.
I was recently talking to a tencho guru who did prove to me that the big name anti virus companies are a joke. Yes, seriously, if you think you're protected from a virus using Norton or McAfee you probably already have a virus.
The virus writer now targets not only the Windows platform but is smart enough to know that you, as an honest name brand person, is paying for your anti virus protection. Protection that they now write the code for to go around.
Example: It's like taking a flu shot and still getting the flu. Which in some cases can happen because a virus evolves just like we all do during life.
Your probably asking how the hell does he know what he's talking about?
Simple...I was using Norton on a laptop of mine and recently uninstalled it because I wasn't ready to renew the subscription. After wards I installed Free AVG located at http://free.grisoft.com and scanned my computer. Thinking that I had protection it wouldn't find anything. WRONG! I did have one back-door Trojan Horse in an archived file. Man, am I glad now I know about these other anti virus companies. If not I would have probably gotten McAfee to keep my computer safe when now I know better.
The only reason I bring this up is because I did happen to notice that CRZ and Guru have posted up the Norton Antivirus Threat level at the bottom of the main page.
So I've done the research for you if you want to change to something free or different check out this page I'm posting here.
Now I use two in conjunction with each other which are AVG Free and aVast! They will not interfere with each others operations and both have live scanning. So...check it out and I hope I've been helpful and if not just call me an ahole to get on with your life.
If you can't beat'em whack'em with a chair! Go ahead...take a Chance!
In the real world, WWE believes that no matter what our race, religious creed or ethnic background in America, we all share the common bond of being Americans. American-Arabs are a part of the fabric of America, and they should be embraced by all of us.

If you're going with AVG, I totally reccomend paying the $40 for a 2 year Pro license. I found it is better than the free version, especially with email scanning.
Anyone who puts NAV on their PC deserves everything they get. :)
I have AVG on one of my home PCs and Avast on the other.
AVG gets a bad rap for false positives. I'd imagine that you probably got a false positive on your archive. I'd still rather be paranoid than wrong, but it's something to note.
Avast is cool but I hate their 60 day / 14 month license key deal. Yes it is free so I shouldn't bitch, but why make it annoying? Ugh.
I use Trend products at work currently, and have worked with McAfee in the past. I have used Norton anti-virus also in the past.
I think I like them all about the same.
Chris works for Symantec so they get a free plug, and it is a good informational bit anyway.
Anyway, I disagree with your opinion and would note that in my 6+ years of IT work I've never had a virus infect a machine that was running a correctly updating copy of a commercial anti-virus application. I'm weighing that a bit more heavily than your quick conversation and subsequent scan.
Oh that wasn't the whole reason. He was just downright stupidly insulting to me in many posts and IMs right afterward. Still, logging on to a board to brag about stealing, well, it's pretty damn dumb.
