Looks like The Dicks (wwe.com) are the latest tag team casualty.

Not that I was a fan of them or the Heart Throbs, but are we headed for another tag team downward spiral?

Are you saying with a straight face that it was AT a level where they COULD go down? Looks like more of a holding pattern to me. Let's face it, the Dicks weren't going to save the tag division. Might as well have brought back Well Dunn.

I can honestly say that I haven't seen either team in months unless you're counting The Big Show killing the Heart Throbs a couple times. Considering these guys were all D-Level talent with the WWE with no time or effort invested into them, I think it's a bit early to even be concerned. When MNM or someone is gone then it's time to worry.

Although an argument could be made that we're still in the same downward spiral that started when the Dudleys, E&C, and the Hardys finished their run together.

Let me take issue withe the D-Level comment.

I've seen Antonio "Antonio" Thomas a handful of times. He's at the very least a competent worker with some real charisma which, sadly, seems to play better to smaller crowds. The rest I can't say anything for, but I had to defend the former NECW champion.

You've got a point there. What I meant is that they were at least a "team" (i.e. a name & matching attire) & and not two singles guys thrown together.

Another couple of guys picked up from OVW with no rhyme or reason and then let go when given little to work with. Tank was a solid performer in and out of the ring especially. Just a shame.

It all goes back to the creative team and their mindset that these guys aren't "working hard enough to get over." But no, the booking team that doesn't know anything about wrestling and is running the show knows all about it.

I have to wonder if maybe these two had some sort of behavioral problem or made a "backstage taboo" to get them released. They work a WWE style plain and simple, and their only real fault is their height (as in WWE likes 'em big) or maybe it does just come down to people saying The Dicks couldn't get over even though they were straddled with a dumb gimmick and no real chances.

I was actually more upset to see the Heart Throbs go. They at least wrestled a genuine tag-team style with double-team moves. The Dicks were just two guys out there standing next to each other. One was pretty good, the other not so much, and I don't even know which one was which. So, no big loss to me.

What's funny is that they report this somewhat serious news, but they couldn't even be bothered to place the LARGE AD FEATURING ATTRACTIVE WOMEN a paragraph away. Shows how truly important the Dicks were.

I wonder why WWE doesn't just send some of these young guys back to OVW or DSW when their gimmicks have run their course/creative has nothing for them, instead of releasing them. Doesn't make much sense to give them a dumb gimmick, hide them on Velocity, then let them go. That's not really giving them a chance to get over.

Okay, I guess I didn't explain what I meant by that. I never really saw them work (I don't count getting your ass kicked by the Big Show as a true showing of how good or bad you are) so I certainly can't say that they were either good or bad workers.

I just meant that if you were to group the wrestlers on RAW in terms of importance, you'd start with the stars. Triple H, Cena, maybe Edge. Then you'd get the guys that fill out the middle of the show but could be stars like Edge, Shelton, Flair, Big Show, Kane. Then the fillers like Carlito, Masters, Chavo. Then you've got the guys that never even get on TV. Guys that could be fired tomorrow and no casual fan on the planet will ever remember. Venis, Viscera. That's the level these guys were at with the company. No offense meant about how talented they may be, I was simply commenting on the implication that this would affect any kind of tag team booking strategies for the shows. The WWE made it so you had to go out of your way to try to watch them wrestle, so it just goes to show how much hinges on them being around.

Vinnie Mac has always used Tag Team as a sideshow attraction.

Big Show: Why is he getting the Intercontinental Title shot and not me?
RVD: Ahhh...maybe 'cause you're a tool.
Big Show: Look. I am 7'2". I am 500 pounds. I'm a giant.
RVD: Oh ok. You're a giant tool.

Winner of the Flying-Under-The-Radar Award: Val Venis

I don't think the WWE even remembers Val is employed. Every batch of roster cuts that passes must give Val a heart attack.

He just hosted a Valentine's online show for the WWE. My understanding of his tenure is that he helps them in trips to places such as Puerto Rico as he speaks the language fluently.

He's also a solid enhancement talent who didn't seem to ever had a problem backstage.

So what you're saying is that Val Venis is the Milton Waddams of WWE?

I've always imagined that Val stays around because he's a skilled veteran who can convincingly put up-and-comers over, he's probably helpful backstage and an easy guy to get along with, and the very same dumb gimmick that unfortunately typecast and marginalized him also allows him to get just enough heat that it means something when a rookie beats him. He's also good for the occasional one-off laugh, much like Moolah and Mae Young. He's still probably sweating when roster cuts come around, but I don't think he has anything to worry about. He's got a great gig -- his type is rare and valuable. Less sure about this one, but I think Steven Richards might be in the same boat.

I've been high on Val for a long time. I still think if they'd brought him in with a different gimmick, he could have been world champ one day. He has all the tools. I feel a little bad for him, but not too bad -- I'm sure he isn't having any trouble paying the bills.

    My understanding of his tenure

I think that's the key word. If you've been with the company for a while, don't cause problems, do what they want when they want, and aren't 'old', they'll keep you around.

I actually like this tag team. They're pretty rough-and-tumble, but they've got spunk. And they're better united together than in one-on-one action. Stand Back! There's A Hurricane Comin' Through!
