NEW YORK -- Keith Olbermann will add a fifth voice to the studio on NBC's Sunday-night football highlights show in the fall, the network said Monday.
Bob Costas anchors the show, with Cris Collingsworth and now Olbermann as co-hosts. With Jerome Bettis and Tiki Barber as analysts, the former NFL players will outnumber Costas and Olbermann by 3-to-2.
Between him, Collingsworth and Costas, I dont know who I'll hate most.| Promote this thread! | | wmatistic

(Hey, if O'Reilly, Limbaugh, and Coulter can make a career out of being loud-mouthed a-holes for the right, what's wrong with Olbermann being a soft-spoken a-hole for the left?) But that's neither here, nor there.
I agree that Olbermann seems to be an unusual pick for this role. I mean, it makes sense considering that MSNBC picked him up for a long-term deal and they want to get every penny they can out of him. But Olbermann IS a baseball guy. I don't know how much he can contribute to a football setting.

I could see something working if they had, say, KO and Collinsworth doing the highlights, Costas moderating Bettis and Tiki with more detailed thoughts, and Peter King getting a segment in near the beginning and end, but I don't think you needed to do anything.
Maybe this is somehow a plan to fix the opening 15 minutes - where they're not allowed to show games (so anyone with a clue didn't bother to watch) - but I'm not sure how this would be accomplished.

Hey, it's "Football Night in AMERICA". Do we criticize how many people are on "Hockey Night in Canada"? Huh? Yeah, I thought so. Leave it alone, Canadian!
As far as Olbermann's ability to talk football as opposed to baseball, I think he managed to do OK for six years on SportsCenter while occassionally branching out from baseball highlights. *rolls eyes*

I don't think anyone's saying he CAN'T do well at football talk, just that it's not what he's best at. His knowledge of baseball is amazing to me at times so it feels like asking Peter Gammons to cover hockey. Why would you do that? |
