I kinda agree on that point. Let me type TV Guide's reason for its "Cult-ability".....
"People see themselves in those characters," says singer Tom Jones. If such casting is not cultworthy, what is? The comedy has sold more than 5000 products (including asthma inhalers and Chia Pets) and has made Bart's weekly chalkboard messages the most deciphered scribbling since the Rosetta stone.

Specifically, Blake's 7 and Red Dwarf, and if we're really talking about cults, Dr. Who should be higher. I somehow recognized the theme on some horrible British comedy show a few months back. A cult show should require more of its viewership than simply watching the Sci-fi network.
And Pink Lady and Jeff should be on there.
And
never mind. I cold go on forever about shows that have more of a "cult" following than half those shows.

I always thought the Simpson's is like wrestling. You got the casuals and you got the hardcores, who can and will recite everyline from every episode.

I had the playset, the action figures and everything. I think the only thing I've got remaining now from that playset is Cowboy Curtis... who used to get the shit kicked out of him by my Star Trek Gowron character on a regular basis. I want to say it ended up being Cowboy Curtis vs. Gowron in the first Arena Games final... Curtis having advanced that far mostly due to heel shenanigans... but in the final, Gowron completely and utterly destroyed him. Hit him with a pain stick and everything. Oh, um... Anyway... they need to come out with a “Greatest 'Greatest Lists' of All-Time” issue. Either that or they need to stop doing it already, stopitstopitstopitstopit, because I can't look at a magazine rack without someone plugging a “Greatest Something of All-Time” list.

Even if you were to concede that it's a cult show, how in the hell does it come in behind The X-Files (which came around later, didn't last as long, and never reached the same peak in popularity), Buffy (which has fans because 17 year old boys think SMG is hot), and Farscape (what the hell is Farscape)? 25 years from now if there's one TV show from this era that's still getting run and everybody remembers fondly, it'll be The Simpsons. A definite slight job there.
