Not to just start a thread for the heck of it, but Eugene really had another great performance.

He is so incredibly over now, he got the Rock's attention.

When he debuted a few weeks back, there was a fair amount of discussion amongst the wieners about how terrible the gimmick would be. Face it, the 'E doesn't have a great track record with some of their "controversial" angles - Katie Vick, anyone.

I defended this angle as I often watched while on the phone with my mildly retarded friend. He was thrilled with the concept of a special person who could wrestle really well, who always looks at the glass as a third full, and who brings out nostalgic references to past favorites. Recall his first night out he licked Jerry the King Lawlor, and talked about "Wacky....BushWhacker" I figured I would give it a chance, since my buddy is thrilled, and I am a huge Regal mark.

Regal has proven himself a top-notch educator, I only feel bad for Garrison Cade

To be honest... Eugene has grown on me, big-time. I was pissed when Coach humiliated him, ecstatic when The Rock came out to defend him, and touched by Eugene's enthusiasm when The Rock said he wanted to be his friend.

I also laughed when Eugene admitted his favorite wrestler is Triple H... glad they didn't use that as an excuse for The Rock to turn on Eugene.

Bring on Garrison Cade! He sucks, anyway... Eugene'll eat him alive!

Most people assumed he'd be like George Steele or Norman the Lunatic.

He's really more like a late 80's Rick Steiner.

It honestly adds color to Dinsmore, because from what I saw of him in OVW, he was pretty bland.

I thought last night's segment was done beautifully..it got just the right gamut of emotions from the live crowd and I watched and reacted the same way, and I kinda expected something to happen on this NEXT week with Coach and then out comes The Rock to save the day, but here's the beauty part: all he really did was encourage Eugene and carry a bit of the weight in the segment: he gave Dinsmore enough of it to not be accused of taking it all for himself.

I only saw the end of the Rock/Eugene segment- wish I had seen the whole thing.
So, Rocky's the champion of "special" people everywhere now?
That doesn't really fit with his old persona of calling Kane a "Big red retard" and accusing Booker of riding the short bus-"Beep, beep"-----but hey, I'm willing to go for along for the ride (Rock N'Retard Connection?)
I will walk up and hand cash over to first person I see wearing a "Popcorn Fart"* T-shirt because they've got more balls than me. (*you know they're gonna print this up and sell it right?)

After a few weeks of watching the Eugene/Regal angle, I am happily surpised at how well WWE has handled it. They've managed to Regal back into the flow of things, and get Eugene very over with the fans. As many people have said, Rock's appearance has put Eugene into the "Insanely Over" category. The angle is moving in the right direction, with Regal about to take a big face turn and side with Eugene.

I also agree with ekedolphin that it was good not to have the Rock turn on Eugene. I was bracing myself for another incident like austin's stunner on stacy keibler when she wouldnt drink his beer.

When the Coach came out and told Eugene that he was a laughing stock, that people were making fun of him, it hit me.

Those of us who were worried this angle was going to be a train wreck were thinking the same thing. They're going to truck Dinsmore out with the mentally deficient angle, and it's going to be little more than a callous, insensitive mock-fest.

How relieved I am that that has proved not be the case. The WWE is handling this angle beautifully. Eugene is a bona fide sympathetic character. The crowd even feels protective of him. As a character, he's sweet and innocent, emotionally vulnerable and honest, and that's a breath of fresh air in the post-Stone-Cold era.

That he personifies the pure love of the sport is a neat idea, too. Rather than mocking the (s)marks out there, he's more like an outlet for them (us). I think that's part of the reason he's getting over so quickly. That, and he's a reminder of the regressive fun side of the business that seems to have been on the backburner for a while. In the weeks and months to come, I won't be least bit surprised if most of the signs we see in the crowd are Eugene signs.

So, Eugene has a big match with someone Dinsmore brought into OVW himself, Rob Conway. He's now lined up for a feud with Lance/Garrison Cade, who trained with Nick in OVW.

If this keeps up, he'll have to eventually face the legend-killer, if he's going to keep wrestling all the OVW guys he trained with.

Tell me about it, I felt bad for the guy. As cheesy as this sounds I was hoping that Stacy would come down and give the guy a big kiss(I know, totally cheesy LoL). Of course I also hope that Regal's will grow Three sizes much like the Grinch of Christmas. Speaking of Regal, he's such a fine actor, he's in a league of his own IMO... I was more then happy with Rock coming out and back Eugene, it was very cool and I felt happy for Eugene, I think the fans did too.

Eugene character is good, I've said this before but in a day where everyone want's to be the stud, the cool guy, the Fonz... Much like Foley (and lesser extend goofy Angle early in his career). It's such a breath of fresh air to see someone with some vulnerability.

Another great use of Eugene on Raw, teaming him with Benoit.

Regal sure seems to be turning face, his look of disappointment and concern for Eugene in a handicap match was priceless.

My mildly retarded buddy, Chip, (there, you're FAMOUS!) gave me a priceless thought - Eugene is way over, without having to sign any autographs...cuz he probably can't spell his own name. Thanks, Chip.

When was the last debut of a character from the minors that became so over so fast... We can't count Shelton Benjamin since he was part of Team Angle first.

I can't think of anyone other in a long long time that has come so far so fast (without coming from a competitor WCW or ECW first). Maybe we have to go back to Rocky Maivia's debut at MSG...unless we want to count some of the divas, to get comparable crowd pops for a rookie...

Maybe Spanky was close, I don't know his prior background.

Ahhhh, too-old-now, but he CAN spell his own name! If you watch the Titantron behind him during his entrance video it has the name "Eugene" written on a piece of paper in somewhat childish print, with I believe the N turned backwards. I wonder if that's how he'd actually sign an autograph though.

I actually saw someone at the OVW Six Flags show with what appeared to be an autographed Eugene photo. IT was a WWE promotional photo and was signed in a HUGE green marker so that his name covered up half the picture.

Please note: this t-shirt is purposely made to be inside out with the tag on the outside of the shirt.

Hah. Would anyone actually wear this in public, though?

If the Eugene shirt came in a XXXL, it'd be mine yesterday. I try to collect as many weird or obscure t-shirts as possible, and that's the best thing the WWE/F has come up with to add to my collection since the Kaientai "Evil, INDEED" shirt, which I never found in my size either.

Eugene has made RAW a lot more fun again.

Indeed. I foresee that shirt popping up a lot in future Raw broadcasts. Maybe not to the degree of "Austin 3:16" in 1998, or "Wanted: Cactus Jack" in 1995, but I bet it creates quite a visible presence.
