It's actually a pretty fun little game ... Kind of like a "cutesy" version of The Sims.

The inclusion of old NES games is pretty sweet too; although I only got "Pinball" and "Golf" with the AC Memory Card (not two of the greatest selections) ... I guess I'll have to save up my Bells for a copy of "Punchout!"

I also haven't had a chance to try out the GCN/Game Boy Advance link-up cable yet ... That should make for some pretty interesting additions to the gameplay.

Anyone else have any opinions on the game?

P.S. How about those AC commercials they snuck in during "RAW"? Pretty ... pretty weird, actually.

I need to try it just to find out what's on the animal crossing card that came with the e-reader I bought (and when I bought my e-reader, I got the one that came with pinball and picked up a deck of Excitebike cards. Excitebike rocks).

AC kicks ass so far. Just curious, what do you have in your village, as far as villagers?

    I've got: 5 cats, 3 chickens, 1 eagle, 1 elephant, and 1 wolf.

Whoa, you got a big village ... I have just a chicken, a cat, a pig, a cow, and a bird (actually I may be forgetting someone); and that's not counting the policeman and postmaster and such.

    That's a bit apples-and-oranges, isn't it?

There's not much you can do with the e-Reader YET. There are the cards that come with it (mini-games, mostly) and the five NES games sold separately. Unless you're really into DK Jr., Excitebike or Balloon Fight, it's more of a novelty item at the moment. Time will tell how many games/media/other uses are released for it, particularly third-party cards, at which point it may well become a 900-pound gorilla of a peripheral.

AC is a fully functional game, here and now. Which is great, if (a) you happen to like that kind of game and (b) you own a GameCube. Neither of those criteria apply to me, but that's neither here nor there.

Nothing, ATM, is better than seeing the Super Monkey Ball 2 commercials. Simple idea turned into GOLD~!

I remember seeing some report from E3 where they had a LOT more going on with the E-Reader. I don't think they're giving up on it any time soon.

I almost had a glimmer of hope it might be Mike Tyson's PunchOut, but knowing about legal issues, it'll probably be the version with that piece'a crap, Mr. Dream.

Nintendo liscence to use Tyson's likeness expired a LONG time ago - like 1989, or something like that. In fact, that, even moreso than the rape charges, is the main reason for the Mr, Dream replacement in the re-release.

In a related note - that guy in the third grade who said he beat Mike Tyson: he was lying.

I've only gotten through 3 days so far, but I'm really diggin' this game. I spend most of the time catching bugs & fish (the 1st thing I caught after I bought the fishing rod was an Old Boot - d'oh), and finding stuff to sell to Nook.

I paid off the house in 2 days, and had Nook do the expansion to the house. That costs 147,000+ bells! OUCH. Good thing he told me to take my time paying it off.

One bad thing, though: the Athletic Fair is today (9/23), and I won't be able to make it since I'm at work. Oh well.

What clothes does everybody wear? I've got my guy running around in clothing w/ the blue & white Arrow pattern (1 of the 4 defaut patterns). At "home", I've got at least 9 other spare clothes sitting around.

Let's see, I've got a koala-looking thing, a pig, a fox, a bird, a bull, an alligator and a chicken that wants to have sex with my character. In celebration of my studliness, I designed a "Pimp" logo for the front door.

I got DK and Excitebike, but they are buried behind a mountain of random items for the house. Incidentally, do any of the decorative house items actually DO anything? The house is beginning to look like a Tijuana pawnshop. My prized possession so far is one-quarter of a wrestling ring. Whoo!

I attended part of the sports fair during lunch. The villagers had split into two teams and were throwing balls into baskets that were in the trees. And the mayor gave me a medal.

Other than that, it's been all bug-catching and digging for fossils. Pretty fun, so far, but I don't know how long my interest will last with the lack of a point.

Anyone interested in trading stuff, let me know.

I got DK and Pinball. I bought a vending machine from Nook for my house. I was hoping it would dispense candy/soda, but no dice (I might sell it back). Someone gave me a totem pole, which is pretty swank. The police station lost & found is a nice place to pick up random items for free, as is the dump.

As for the decorative items, there's a committee (or something) that judges the interiors of the homes, and awards you a point value. You need to go to Nook and tell him you want to participate. You'll get a letter from the comittee after they judge your house. I don't know what the point values do, if anything.

The one complaint, though, is that the villagers are sometimes a bit verbose, especially the owl in the museum. I just want to donate my bug/fish/fossil and be on my way.

One other cool thing I saw was when I stopped by the Able Sisters. The one at the sewing machine was sewing a pattern that was a white skull on a black background (!). I haven't seen it on display in their shop, yet.

As for other villagers, let's see if I can remember: a cat, a pig, a rabbit, a goat, an anteater (I think), a hippo, and what I think is another cat (slut).

Yeah, the museum curator is starting to piss me off. I don't have time for him to give me a history lesson about amber or trilobytes. There're migratory locusts to be caught!

So, I got home & loaded up AC, and set the clock back to 12:55 so I could catch the Ball Tossing. What a disappointment - I thought we could participate in the festivities. All you can do is watch. Lame. Plus, Nook's was closed for expansion, so my house is full of fish & bugs to sell.

This thread has piqued my curiosity about the game way more than any ads or magazine coverage of it have.

asteroidboy and OFB mentioned trading and selling of items(with other people...?)- how does one do that, exactly?

    You have 2 options:

    1) a friend has the game, and you plug both your & his memory cards into the GC. You can then "travel" to his town, and interact w/ his citizens, buy & sell, etc.

    2) you get the name of a person's character & town, and you go to the shop in your town w/ an item to trade. You'll get a password in exchange, which you then give to the other person. They'll take this password to their shop, tell it to the shopkeeper (Nook), and they'll get the item you "sent". It works in reverse, too, so you can get items the same way. The good part about Option #2 is that you can do this w/ *anybody* who has the game, not just your local friends.
