First of all, not in my SI. I couldn't find this story anywhere in my latest issue of SI (with Kenyon Martin on the cover). If someone could tell me what page it's supposed to be on, that would be a great help in figuring out what the hell is up here.

But anyway, the gist of the story is that Angle is considering a comeback to the Olympics in 2004 and the WWF is letting him take two years off to train. This seems like a no-win situation for the WWF.

a) They'll be losing one of their top stars for a very long time, hurting the soon-to-be Rockless Smackdown brand even more.

b) Angle could very well get hurt, since he's not in his amateur prime any more

c) Angle could make it, but lose, which would undermine his gimmick.

Of course, Angle could also pull off an upset and win the gold again, which seems kind of unlikely given that he's spent eight years away from the sport.

Strange...it`s on two pages with NO page numbers. Go to page 30, with "Faces in the Crowd", turn to the next page, and you should see Angle, Booker T, and Earl Hebner right in front of you.

Actually, the gist of the story is that Angle (and Brock Lesnar) are breaking down the barrier between amateur and pro wrestling. The Olympic comeback is mentioned briefly near the end of the story, almost as an aside. I also don`t want him to leave, for the same reasons you listed.

It's towards the end of the Scorecard section of the mag.

Two things:

1) I don't think Angle will be leaving us right away. Earliest I see him going is Summerslam.

2) Isn't it funny how they talk about him being a heel, and yet they use a photo taken during his face run?

a) I don't see how anyone can say the WWF is hurting for talent right now. The talent is there is just needs to be pushed. Open spots in the upper card can allow such a push.

b) I think his chances of injury are far higher right now than in the Olympics.

c)If he loses he can catch more "you suck" heat. If he wins he will be telling us he told us all and that it's true.

I have noticed he looks a lot more cut these days and thought maybe he might have been already training. I doubt he has forgotten the holds or anything. I think he would probably win the gold again.

I didn't say that Angle suddenly forgot how to be an amateur wrestler. Eight years is a long time in sports, though, and age is a major factor in a sport like wrestling; just look at Alexander Karelin in the last Olympics.

Oh yeah, and the damn story isn't in my SI at all. Unbelievable. Thanks for the help anyway, though.

I woldn't get all worried that Angle is going to leave any time soon. All the article said was that if he wanted to train for 2004, the WWF would let him. Not that he is leaving for two years. I don't think Angle will leave the WWF unless he had a damn good feeling that he was going to win (which 50/50 doesn't seem like to me).
