Giants in 5.

I can't stand all the redneck bastard types on the Angels ... Erstad, Fulmer, Eckstein. It just pisses me off to watch them play.

Forgetting someone? Like Washburn?

That said, I'm going with Angels in, oh... roku. ;)

Angels in 6.

At some point, Barry Bonds will remember the stage that he's on, and do what he's always done in October: choke.

... I think the Angels will have little trouble with Schmidt -- they've owned this type of pitcher (hard-throwing righty) all year long. The Angels shouldn't have too many problems with Ortiz, either; Ortiz is around the plate and the Angels normally are more than happy to settle for a barrage of singles against a diet of sinking fastballs. Hernandez could be a problem for the Angels if he has any kind of command; so could Rueter.

I don't see the Giants really roughing up Washburn. The Dodgers have a pitcher very similar to Washburn, Odalis Perez, and Perez had good success against Frisco this year. Lackey will likely get pounded. Appier will need to have pinpoint control to avoid the same fate as Lackey. The big key for the Angels' staff is Ramon Ortiz -- if Ortiz lacks good stuff and starts giving up homers (especially to guys like Aurilia, Bell, and Santiago), the Angels will be in deep trouble.

They're pretty even in the bullpen, although at this point I'd rely more on Francisco Rodriguez, Donnelly, and Percival than I would on Felix Rodriguez, Worrell, and Nen.

I'd say the Angels win in 7.

EDIT ... By the way, BobHolly, I completely agree with you about the Rally Monkey -- it sucks, and it's right in character with the cheesy Southern California sports announcers, like Rex Hudler. I'll be donning my 1979 Bobby Grich #4 jersey, remembering the days when Dick Enberg called the games and when there was a big A-frame scoreboard behind the left-field fence instead of Splash Mountain.

Angels in six with Ben Weber, who played with the Giants for 9 games in 2000, winning the MVP based on the same theory.

Of course, I had to look that up to know it. I noticed something while looking at thier roster too. The reason i haven't heard of these guys (ok, i actually probably have heard of them a lot, because i'm a hardcore baseball fan, but never realized they were THIS good) is because they've all been on the Angels for thier entire careers!

I even did a little research, out of the guys on the Angels World Series roster, they have a combined 129 years of major league baseball experience. 93 of those years were spent with the Angels. Which is about 72%

If you take out Kevin Appier who has only been an Angel in one of his 14 years in baseball then that makes it 92 out of 115 years of experience for the Angels. 80%

I think (i'm not positive but don't want to go through the entire roster again) that the only other guys with two seasons or more NOT on the Angels is Benji Gill (4 years with Texas), Scott Spiezio (4 years with Oakland), and Brad Fullmer (5 years with Montreal and Toronto).

I just thought it was interesting.

All right, THIS means war. Nobody insults Rex the Wonder Dog -- there are so few honest-to-goodness flakes left in sports that they're worth defending.

"I can't stand all the redneck bastard types on the Angels ... Erstad, Fulmer, Eckstein. It just pisses me off to watch them play."

Right on, Amazing Salami. The Angels do have a bunch of good ole boys. I would like to see Bonds and the more multi-cultural Giants get a win (didn't we have two rednecks win the Series last year?)

I think the one thing the Giants have going for them is that they are basically the underdogs, and they are a veteran team which is less cocky. I just about wanted Bonds to charge the mound after rounding the bases for his homeer in game one just to slap that stupid-ass smirk off Washburn's Bugs Bunny face. The Angels DESERVED to lose that first game. I just wish the Giants would actually have an EASY ONE TWO THREE INNING once in a while. Sheesh, I don't know if they've had ONE of those yet. (Did Schmit ever have an easy inning in game one?)

I'm sticking with Giants in 6. I think they can take one more in Anaheim (they seem to like playing with their backs against the wall on the road). I don't think there's a chance in hell they will be able to sweep the Angels at home, not with their big guns in the line-up and that 20 year old flame thrower they call a pitcher in the bullpen. I would like to see the Giants figure that kid out and smack him around a bit though. If there's any team that is veteran and good enough to do it, it's the Giants. Should be interesting to watch.

The Angels can win as long as Francisco Rodriguez and Percival's arms hold up. Either team is one big swing away from taking the next game.

My predictions on the series so far have held up, so I'm making a call.

The Angels are gonna be hard pressed to hit a homer in PacBell. Giants take Game 3 in a low scoring game.

Who said they needed to hit homeruns? Doubles and singles seemed to work well enough.

Yeah, I totally forgot Washburn. Ick. I loved it when Bonds went yard on him in Game One cause Washburn was all cocky about it before the series started. "I'm not afraid. I'm going to challenge him, blah blah blah." And Bonds took him DEEP. I loved it. And I loved the little "oh well" smirk on his face that showed what a little shit he is. A guy just smoked your shit in the freakin World Series and you shrug and go "oh well." Whatever.

Dang, and he's supposed to be the Angels best pitcher? I really don't think they have as good of pitching as the Giants, and that will no doubt end up being the difference in this series if the Giants can pull it out. I'm still somewhat 50-50 on whether or not they can do it. I personally think they HAVE to do it Saturday, because they are not going to win a game 7 (too much drama), but I just don't see how they can win 3 in a row against the Angels. They will have to club the ball again early on and then continue to add on, like they did last night. They're going to have to be some focused mo-fos.

Why all the hating on Jarrod Washburn? He hasn't done anything over his career that would warrant this level of haterade.

As for the pitching, the Giants starting pitching is just about equal to the Angels. There certainly is no huge advantage in this category. The Giants huge advantage is Barry Bonds and his 2000+ OPS. Geez.

I really can't explain my hatred for Washburn. But I'll try.

Did you ever have that kid at school that pissed you off just by looking at him? Just seeing the kid made you want to fight and for no good reason. That's kinda how I feel about Washburn. Just looking at him pisses me off. To top that off, the crap about "not being afraid" of Bonds and "going right after him" was pretty stupid. I understand trying to be macho if you're a professional athlete and all that but DAMN don't be stupid. Getting a long ball off on him in Game One and HAMMERING him in Thursday's game was just poetic justice.

The fact is the Angels just assumed they were going to steamroll their way to the title, so Bonds didn't really scare them. It took a good, solid veteran team like the Giants to give them a shot of reality.

Hopefully we don't see the Angels do two more 18-10 wins, and hopefully the Giants and pull one more win out of their asses in Anaheim. Again, as a Giants fan I'm scared, but I guess I just have to sit through two more and lose more hair. I know one thing, if the Giants lose tonight I am NOT watching any damn highlights. The TV is getting shut off until Sunday and then I'm just watching the game. I can't take all this analyzing and interviewing, it's making me too anxious. PLAY ALREADY!!

I find that extremely hard to believe that the Angels thought they were going to steamroll anybody! I think it's fair to say that Bonds scares the crap out of everyone he faces. Some admit and some don't though.

Dammit, I grew up watching Ivan Calderon. He was part of possibly my single favorite sports year ever (the 1990 White Sox) and always seemed like a good guy, even if he was a bit out there sometimes. This really sucks to hear.
