'Angel' wings in
As for "Angel," Frog has ordered another full season of the Joss Whedon-creative skein and will air the show Wednesdays at 9 p.m., with relocated hit "Smallville" as its lead-in. Frog has an option for a sixth season.
What's more, Paradigm-repped Marsters has signed on to reprise his "Buffy" role as punker vamp Spike. Other "Buffy" regulars may also make guest appearances next season, while Whedon has vowed to write several scripts and direct episodes of the show.
Jeffrey Bell and Tim Minear will be exec producers/showrunners.
Charisma Carpenter, who plays Cordelia, is not expected to return as a series regular.
"Angel's" recent ratings perfomance should have made it a shoo-in for a renewal.
Still, WB execs wanted to see how their drama development turned out, and, more importantly, needed to hammer out a new license fee deal with 20th. While "Angel" isn't a particularly expensive skein to produce, it doesn't do very well in repeats, making it tougher for the Frog to turn a profit on the show.
"Until we knew at what price we could close a deal for the series, as well as what the rest of our schedule cost, we couldn't make the call," WB Entertainment chief Jordan Levin said.
Still, unlike the rancorous Frog-20th negotiation over "Angel" sibling "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Levin said the "Angel" talks repped "a cordial, non-emotional negotiation.
"It's a deal that's acceptable for both of us, and also ultimately respects the fans of the collective 'Buffy' and 'Angel' mythologies," Levin said.
While I'm not going to subscribe to them just to get a link that will only work if everyone else subscribes with them, this link will provide everything you need to know:
Angel's renewed, Spike is joining the cast. With that, I think it is safe to assume that the article above is how it is printed on the subscribtion side.
Looks like I'm going to start watching Angel next season.

Actually those are supposedly true. I have a few theories on how that works too.
BTW I knew it would be back. Naysayers, say elsewhere! Or something.

Well, there is hope left in the Buffyverse. As for Spike coming on for the new season there is a ton of things they can do with him. My only hope that its more of Spike doing his own thing while Angel becomes the brains of the operation. If they could kill off Lorne and Fred too, I have high hopes for the show.
I think those spoilers are true to the point. Joss likes to fuck with us when it comes to what the fans know. Last season, word leaked out that Willow was going to be the major bad guy, but there was no real justification for it, so the rumor died. Then the last three episodes came and pow instant Dark Willow. The rumors about this season like Giles being the First and other minor stuff in so-called real spoilers being false. I am wondering if Joss is going to pull a who shot JR and have like ten different final scenes and only one of them will be aired. Would make for a nice extra for the Season 7 DVD set. I know what is supposed to happen at the end, but I get the feeling that something else is going on in Joss' mind.
Lorne and Fred are the only things that keep some of the middling episodes tolerable. And I really doubt they'd kill off Fred. She's the only girl left.
Cinco de Satire (wienerboard.com) <- No kidding, right? Buffy 7.20 gets a 7.259 So, they made a big point about Buffy being wrong, only to prove her right? Huh? Sex, Andrew, and the Mayor. That's what made this episode.
Bear in mind that some of us have no clue what the Buffy spoilers are, but your comments about them indicate what they might be. Nice attempt at defanging them though, A Fan. Again, not that I know anything about the spoilers other than Odessasteps comments, but Darla was staked in season 1 Buffy (ep 7, iirc), and Wolfram and Hart revived her in Angel season 2 (again, iirc). Other than Tara and Doyle, I can't think of anyone (major) in the Buffyverse who didn't appear in some form at least once after they died, so whatever happens, there would be precedent for bringing Spike back, if that's the case.
Its weird to think that after this season, the only original Buffy cast member still actively around will be Boreanaz, and even then he didn't get full credits in the first few Buffy eps. I can't say I'm upset at the removal of Cordelia, as her character has evolved so much since Buffy season 1, that there's almost nowhere else to go with her (especially since people seem to like the bitch Cordelia more, and I can't think of a good way of reviving that Cordelia without it seeming like some sort of character cop-out.)
In another thread someone mentioned that the delay over whether or not Spike would be a regular on Angel was that they didn't have the budget to add another regular and Marsters didn't want someone to lose their job for him. If Cordy is the one of got cut, does that mean the rest of the cast remains the same? (So can this news indicate that Connor will still be involved in the occurances of next season?)

Joss is writing and directing SEVERAL episodes? Sweet. Just as long as Ben Edlund continues to get his two cents in.

Part of me wants Joss to tell Ben to go back to making more Tick comics, while the other part of me eternally waits for the Angel vs Tick crossover. (Or if the Tick can't crossover, can we at least get Angel vs. Chainsaw Vigilante, if not a cameo by the Man Eating Cow or even Joseph Stalin?)
