I almost put this in the wrestling thread, but hey.

A pretty enjoyable episode. Good mix of funny/serious with the luchadores. Too bad they couldn't have gotten Rey Mysterio or someone for a cameo.

Wayne: Hey Tiny, who's playing today?
Tiny: Jolly Green Giants and the Shitty Beatles.
Wayne: Shitty Beatles? Are they any good?
Tiny: Man, they suck!

Its kind of sad to see #5 go. But they did a good job of establishing him as a background character in the other episodes that it was cool to see him be the focal point of this episode.

The wrestling sequence seemed a bit simplistic, but then again, I would have to imagine Lucha Libre from the 50's wasn't the product it is today. Then again, they did that jumping hurracanrana from the top rope. It would have been nice to see more planchas and general craziness, but I suppose
a series is not the place to look for that.

Why can't today's luchadores get that much rotation on their opponents from a hurracanrana?

I wonder who on the staff is the wrestling fan. I'd consider this a one time type of thing, but there's been too many other incidents (Angel's Sliced Bread #2, for example) that make me think someone likes the stuff.

Between a nice self-contained story and the fun group interaction (Spike: "I called shotgun." Wesley: "I thought we were doing a weapons check."), this episode is easily one of the best of the season.

I thought it was a good, fun episode as well. I really liked Angel's reaction to being thrown through the window in the office and I thought the quintuple team conclusion to the fight was great.

On the whole, IMO Spike is this season's MVP, although I'm sure not everyone enjoys the role he is playing.

As I'm sure has been referenced elsewhere, they did get other wrestlers (from California's Revolution Pro) to portray roles in the show.

Good episode. Joss is a noted "Strong Bad" fan, so maybe he's a closet wrestling junkie too? I liked how they're starting to pick on the loose threads a bit more (with Spike's trying to insert himself in the Shanshu prophecy and Angel calling Wesley out for misinterpreting the Conner prophecy and Wes not knowing what Angel was talking about). I'm not sure I buy the sappiness of the ending with Angel getting his groove back, but I don't feel like being particularily picky. I also love it whenever they take a notible background character and turn him into the star of an episode. So I love love loved that part.

I glanced over at a Buffy board (buffyworld.com) today, and I was suprised to see so much hate for last night's ep. Then again, maybe I shouldn't have been, seeing as we all might be biased.

From Meltzer's Tuesday report (liveaudiowrestling.com):
--Revolution Pro Wrestlers Super Dragon, Mr. Excitement, Taro, Angel, American Wild Child and others appear on the TV show "Angel" on WB on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. The plot of the show is that Angel, the lead character, is trying to track down a retired Lucha Libre star.

Well, lump me in with the haters, I guess. Last night's just didn't do it for me.

The AI gang character moments were fabulous, as always. And I liked the story of Los Hermanos Numeros on its own. But, the two worlds didn't mesh very well. It felt like one of those episodes of a TV show where they introduce a whole bunch of new characters just to generate a lame spinoff. Plus, the "Aztec Warrior" was a bit too generic.

Oh well. They can't all be gems.

Yes, because once someone dies on Angel, they never ever ever return. Wait.....

Question for the Buffy/Angel fans:

I was into the last season of Buffy pretty hardcore, but I didn't bother watching Angel this season. And I was wondering, since the last Buffy ended with all potential slayers turning into full blown slayers, has this been mentioned on Angel at all? I'm not really sure what the percentages are, but I'd think it'd be a pretty safe bet that there are at least 50 slayers running around L.A. So do Angel etc. still have to hunt vampires? Or has this idea been kind of ignored/forgotten on Angel.

Angel and co. have been too busy running Wolfram and Hart to do much vampire hunting on their own. The first scene of the season actually featured Angel interrupting a vampire from feeding, but before he could leave, a team from Wolfram & Hart arrived to *clean-up* the situation, including having the victim Angel saved signing documents and taking publicity shots. I don't think Angel's dusted anyone since.

So while no, it hasn't been mentioned, they've been too busy with other stuff to notice.

UNITED WE STAND

BTW, apparently Jeffery Bell, the newest ME employee, is the wrestling fan.. he wrote/directed the episode.
