Wasn't sure where to post this, but football seemed most appropriate. I'll be curious to see what his successor has to clean up.

I'm sure probation and a ban on post-season play (like what happened to 'Bama a couple years ago, but not SMUs kiss of death) is coming next.

Have to give Geiger credit: Not many AD's can hit the daily double by leaving with clouds over both the basketball and football programs.

Why? So far, there's been one PROVEN (Sorry Maurice, howsabout some proof next time?) incident of a player receiving an improper benefit. If there are more, then yes, it would be reasonable to expect sanctions. But if this is an isolated case, then the NCAA won't drop the hammer.

The key difference _ so far _ is that what was going on at Alabama involved coaches. At OSU, it's just boosters. The NCAA is a lot more lenient on booster violations if they're happening without the knowledge of the coaches. If the coaches knew, then the dreaded phrase "lack of institutional control" comes into play.

Listen, this crap happens at just about every school with a reasonably popular football/basketball program. Boosters need to be reined in, but like I said, the NCAA takes a far harder line when coaches/administrators have knowledge of it and try to cover it up. If OSU people did know, they should be drilled for it. It looks like, right now, that Troy Smith acted on his own and no one from Ohio State knew until they were tipped off.

Well it's possible to "roll dice" without money on the line, for one thing. I can roll dice betting potato chips if I want. Is that what the Vikings were doing? You can't exactly prove otherwise.
