Yeah, it's bad enough that this jackass took a team that was just one missed Paul Edinger-figgie away from making the playoffs prior to his regime and turned it into complete shit. Any owner with common sense would've shitcanned an inept monkey like Millen a long time ago, but apparently these days it takes an offensive remark for that happen.
It's one thing for Shockey to make a comment like that, but a goddam GM? My dead grandma would do a better job running that team than Millen could ever dream of, and with more dignity too.

Okay, this is another in a long line of NFL idiocy this year. So tell me again why the league was upset about Playmakers on ESPN. So much so that they will likely not bring it back. If this were my daughter, she would get a time out.
Its funny because people laughed when Deion Sanders wanted to be coach of the Falcons with no experience. But Millen was given the whole Lions franchise with NO experience as a coach or executive.
At least he was smart enough to hire Mariucci. Of course he could have had Marvin Lewis THREE YEARS AGO, but thats besides the point.
What was so smart about hiring Mariucci? Steve Mariucci never got anything more out of the 49ers than was expected, and the Lions are no better under him than they were a year ago. He has yet to prove that he can get anything extra out of anyone or that he can get the most out of a team.
If making the obvious hire is Millen's greatest claim to fame so far in Detroit, maybe he should be fired...and that's without even considering his outbursts or the Johnnie Morton incident.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are built for the playoffs. Of course they are. What Leafs fans don't realize, though, is "built for the playoffs" is just GM-speak for "short on skill, kinda slow, and can't score over an 80 game season".

And how are those (mostly) same 49ers doing this year?

He did take a team through and out of salary-cap hell to make the playoffs, with Jeff Garcia at quarterback. That's a pretty decent accomplishment if you ask me, certainly better than anything, say, a guy like Dave Wannstedt has ever done.
