I don't think I could be any unhappier with those final two winners, but I suppose the plus to it is all this Hobbit crap is finally over so I don't have to worry about them in future award shows. Nice to see Johnny and Bill show up.

As the resident LotR mark on this board, this night has made me the happiest bitter midget on the planet. Finally, true entertainment wins out over pedantic, self-important "art". WOOOOHOOOO!!!

Well, considering they were completely ignored in every acting category in favor of said "pedantic, self-important "art"", I wouldn't call the night a complete victory.

As an aside. On a night when Tim Robbins won & accepted with grace & even Michael friggin Moore poked fun at himself, Sean Penn had to make an ass of himself & push his agenda in a completely inappropriate forum. Pathetic...

Until he said that, I had forgotten who the hell he even was.

"And a special thank you to Saddam Hussein, who got me noticed in the papers for a week or two." Sheesh.

No one's ever going to outdo Vanessa Redgrave on the political agenda thing at the Oscars, though...

Good lord....I got EVERY AWARD RIGHT from the preview thread, aside from the short films. Well, I did hedge my bets on a couple, but I'm still counting it as Hennig-esque perfection!

Good to see a lot of deserving people win...I really have no problem with any of the results except the LotR script and the crappy LotR song both winning.

Will Ferrell and Jack Black need to host the Oscars next year...that was the highlight of the night.

Wait…if it’s MLK Jr. Day AND Pat Patterson’s Birthday…who gets the token win here?-- Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking on a match between Mark Henry and Rico

MH: What’s a clever way to say that I have a penis?
CJ: Uh…Mark, nobody’s going to buy that shirt.
MH: How about if I say that I’ve got…a…uh…?
CJ: Coming up with T-Shirt ideas is hard Mark, why not leave it to the WWE marketing department.
MH: I know! I’ve got it!
CJ: Got what?
MH: Stank! That’s Mah Stank! I’m gonna make a fortune!!
CJ: “That’s Mah Stank”?
MH: On the front it’ll say “Can You Smell It?” and on the back it’ll say “That’s Mah Stank”. Everybody’ll buy it because they’ll think it’s a Rock shirt.
CJ: You know…you might be on to something there, sad to say.
MH: I can’t wait to show mah stank to Trish.

You know, I have a feeling that Spanky didn’t quit, he was fired. Why? So they could repackage Mark Henry as “Stanky.” Think about THAT!

Pfft, dude, you "hedged your bets" on SEVEN of the categories. You're no Hennig!

I got 75%. I was, apparently, a fool to predict anything BUT LotR for anything it was nominated for.

If you look at the trilogy as a whole I can possibly understand justifying a best direction and best picture award. But, individually (as it *should* be regarded when pertaining to the award) "Return of the King" was the weakest of the three films, and definitely outdone by the rest of the nominees.

On a side note, I don't know if they changed the article after the fact, but this (entertainment.msn.com) was surprisingly (frighteningly?) accurate. (as far as predicting the actual winners)

it says so right here in the wcw handbook!

what does it take to get a higher ranking around here? i already know what it takes to get a lower one! :-P

Well, my company has a huge $5 buy-in pool every year...hopefully I can do well. Here's the categories I guessed wrong:

Actor: Guessed Murray, it was Penn.
Adapted Screenplay: Guessed Mystic River, it was ROTK.
Cinematography: Seabiscuit, 'twas M&C.
Costume Design: Last Samurai, 'twas ROTK.
Sound Editing: Nemo, 'twas M&C.
Doc. Feature: Friedmans, 'twas Fog o' War.
Doc. Short: Asylum, 'twas Chernobyl Heart.
Animated Short: Destino, 'twas Harvie Klumpet.

Not bad. 8 wrong out of 24. Better than last year.

I guess my question is, has one film ever performed a clean sweep at the Academy Awards before? And by clean sweep I mean win all the awards it was nominated for. Return of the King won 11 for 11. It was nominated for 11 academy awards, and it won all 11 of them.

Films have won all of their nominations before, but the most-nominated film to do so as of yet had only 9. RotK ties Ben Hur and Titanic for most awards at 11, but is the only of the three to sweep.

So, technically speaking (and in terms of the academy alone), Return of the King is the most-honored film of all time.

Awesome.

Just such a boring and predictable show this year, as I was begging them for for the final five awards to do something interesting or fresh. I'm all for the retroactive oscars for the whole trilogy, but considering the song sucked, the script was inferior compared to the others nominated, and the editing was one of the reasons the film felt like 5 hours more than 3 and a half, I felt kinda jipped in getting the Lord of the Rings blowjob special. Black and Ferrell, Mitch and Mickey, and the AWESOME performance of Belleville Rendez-vous (Seriously, see that flick when you get the chance, as it's just absolutely charming and wonderful) were the highlights of an otherwise completely boring and blah show. And kudos to Errol Morris too, for finally getting what he deserves, and showing that a well-spoken (at least sort of) political statement will cause no controversy.

Caped Boy: Excuse me, ladies. You may remember me as the guy who came to dinner a few weeks ago with underwear on my head. My name is Keith Stat from Milbourne, New Jersey. State bird, the mosquito. And as you may have heard I am recently a crowned class B dungeon-master. So if any of you would like to play D&D today, please speak now or forever hold your peace.
[He chuckles, and there is an awkward silence at the table.]
Caped Boy: Anyone? Alexa!
[Alexa gives him a withering glare.]
Caped Boy: Maybe you would like to join in? We do need a druid, and you have definitely cast a level 5 charm spell on me.
Alexa: In your dreams, douche-bag!
Caped Boy: Douche-bags are hygienic products, I take that as a compliment. Thank you.
[Keith walks off]
Alexa: Ewww!

Benicio Del Toro was ROBBED. While Naomi Watts was terrific in 21 Grams, it would be an empty movie without his performance.

Otherwise, I got no real problems with the voting this year. LOTR made too much cash to be totally ignored three times. So, they gave them the Lifetime (it took that long to sit through them) Achievment awards last night.

And Errol Morris, I agreed, made a statement that was powerfull, without being self important and smug.
