....Theodore R. Long, according to the Wob. B'lee DAT, playa. Okay, I'm a HUGE fan of Long in the managerial role, but I have serious concerns over whether he can stretch his schtick out over a generalised authority figure. I mean, it should be an interesting experiment, to say the least, and it's certainly fresh, but will it work?
Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.
I love Teddy Long but damn they are really just running threw the WWE roster for these GM jobs. I mean, Eric Bischoff, Steve Austin, Paul Heyman, Kurt Angle, Stephanie McMahon, and now Teddy Long.
GREAT choice. Teddy has been a diamond in the managerial rough for them. And Smackdown has been in short supply of funny heels, ever since Angle got all serious on us.
Don't drink that Hatorade. Oh no.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm TOTALLY looking forward to seeing him in the role. He should be a lot more amusing/entertaining than your standard generic nasty authority figure. Particularly if he starts favouring Booker/Orlando Jordan/D-Von simply because they're "bruthas". Ooh ooh! He could also bring Mark Henry over due to some silly contractual loophole. He's due back soon, right?
Come to think of it, I'm loving this idea. I renege on my apprehension.

That would make sense. I liked Teddy Long during his one-night gig as the RAW GM, but Smackdown's a beast that needs more of a hands-on GM. RAW's strongest when we never see the GM, but Smackdown's gotten to the point where they need somebody guiding things on-screen.

I think that Teddy Long will be pretty good in the GM role, probably better than Angle. But Heyman probably would be better than anyone that they have available right now. Instead he's got to try to get John Heidenreich over. I'm not sure why everytime Heyman is good in his role in WWE he gets moved someplace else (Smackdown booker, Smackdown GM, Lesnar's manager, Dudley Boyz manager, etc.).

Possibly. The McMahons are always gonna be around in the WWE, but it's better when they're used sparingly so they don't get stale. Take Vince's appearance on Smackdown. It was all "Hey! It's Vince!", not "Hey, it's Vince...yet again..."

HALLELUJAH! I've only been saying for months now that Long should get the chance once it was time to move Angle back onto the active roster. This should rock regardless of whether or not they keep Teddy a heel - though it'd be so easy to keep his current schtick and turn him babyface - as long as they don't do the pro-black angle again (otherwise, he's just a manager for Booker & D-Von).
Teddy Long is awesome but he doesn't get anyone over, so finding something other than manager to do was a good idea. I would've chosen color commentator, maybe, because I don't think he has the presence to be a successful GM. Eric Bischoff ran WCW, Paul Heyman ran ECW, Stephanie was a McMahon and Kurt Angle was a former champion. Teddy Long managed Doom, that's about the best he's done.
But good luck to him and I hope he succeeds because he's great.
I hope his schtick doesn't wear thin. I thought his one-week-only stint as Raw GM was pretty funny.
One thing struck me in particular.
When he made a match between two of the divas (maybe Molly and Trish), he cracked, "Cause there's nothing Teddy Long likes to see more than two white bitches beating the hell out of each other!"
If he can deliver hilarity like that, then all will be right in the misogynistic world of rasslin'.

I liked the idea of the Playa's Card, and hope it can still be used somehow. Like as a get-out-of-match free card or a GM-does-you-a-favor card (the "Long Shot").
I'm all for this. Long's funny and energetic on the mic. The skits with Booker are gonna steal the show.

I can just imagine Long striking up a deal to get Booker a Title shot. The champion has Booker pinned, and Long throws his shoe in the ring to break up the pin!
Sorry, but that was probably one of the greatest things I've ever seen in my history of watching pro-wrestling.
The answer to WWE's financial problems...
Never 'Wiener of the Day', and is actually quite bitter about it.
It'll be interesting to see whether they keep the same gimmick for Long or whether they water him down a bit to be a more vanilla evil GM. If they stick with the racism schtick then Booker T should be a very happy man. Quite how they have him interact with a heel champ JBL though I know not given Bradshaw's rather xenophobic promos.
I'd say its the right choice though. I know there were probably quite a few holding out for Heyman to return to the role, but we'vee been down that road a couple times, and he's in a fairly prominent role with the Dud's now anyways.
I hope they don't water down his role so that he's just a heel GM that's out to screw all of the faces for no real reason. That's been done to death with authority roles over the last five years or so. If they make him a heel Gm, which they probably will, they ought to at least keep some of his raceially charged character in tact.
