You all had great advice for me. Well, it's a year later and things are going very well with us. I just wanted to thank you all for the words of wisdom. We're getting ready to take a trip for my 30th to Disneyworld.
I haven't gotten her a ring yet, though. Marriage will be great one day, but we want to get stuff paid off and make a little more money first. Is this a good idea? Or, should we throw caution to the wind and just do it?
You all gave me good advice last year, so I'm looking for answers again. Thanks!
No you had it right. Don't get married if you can't afford the wedding or already have a ton of debt. Hanging off parents and making them pay is a crappy way of doing things, tradition be damned. If you're having fun with each other there is zero reason to rush it just to get it done. Pay off everything, save up a bit and plan way in advance. I mean realize the typical wedding is gonna cost close to $10,000 in the end if the do the whole deal, which is crazy but I found to be accurate, and we didn't exactly go crazy on anything.
No harm in getting engaged early I suppose, though I would wait until about a year before you plan to have the actual wedding. Just my personal opinion.
You are still young at 30. Work a lot of overtime or a second job and get things paid off and some money in the bank before the wedding. I recently attended the wedding of a couple who had been engaged for nine years.
While awaiting the Flames/Red Wings game at the bar (and watching RAW), my chum and I both both a bottle of Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout. It at first reminded me of drinking wine, only without the absobanant cost of wine.
