Last week, the Toronto Blue Jays signed closer BJ Ryan for five years and $47 million. Did they overpay? Absolutely. It seems, though, that the purpose was to send a message to players that the Jays have money now and want to compete with Boston and the Yankees. Unfortunately, that message wasn't heard by Brian Giles, who spurned their offer and signed with the Padres. I think the Jays should be focusing on another starter and some more hitting power, not a name closer. Promote this thread!

D'oh. Amazing that I missed that.
I thought JR-Lawler kicked ass around 1998, not to mention the extraordinarily underrated team of McMahon-Lawler before that, but by the time he walked out in 2001, I was done with him. He hasn't had anything good to contribute in years.
