It's still early. If he stays out a few more weeks, then he avoids 2 a days. At this point, Favre doesn't deserve any benefit of the doubt.

We have a winner!

Let's not proclaim it over until the season is over. Although I don't believe that he would come back once the season has started, it's still a possibility.

The sad thing about this is that Jim Johnson's passing is taking a backseat.

I thought he hated the way the Packers that much to want to be a Viking, no matter what. Eh, give it 2-3 weeks, he'll be whoring for the attention once again.

I was just thinking: Can we call Farve the Hulk Hogan of the NFL? A all-american hero who was loved by many, now is a guy that gets ripped apart by many, got turfed out by his long time employer (like Hogan was back in '93 or '94 WWF), talks trash about his former employer when he isn't being used by them, holds down younger talent (Rodgers, Clemens), makes it all about him, and was good in his skillset but is now just old and overrated. Sounds pretty similar to me.

EDIT: Oh, and why the Jets logo and not the Vikings/NFL one?

Brett Favre was considering returning?

Seriously, I don't think there's a guy who I've grown to dislike quite as much during the twilight years of his career.

A once fine QB who was hard to root against quickly became nowt but an overrated, media-whoring tit.

Good riddance. Please don't come back.

If he doesn't show up later in camp for the Vikes or anyone else (never know who might go down with an injury), I still say it won't be over (for this year at least) until around the beginning of November.

Why the beginning of November? If you look at the Vikings schedule, you may notice that their bye week is in week 9 (Nov 8th), and with his familiarity with the offense they run, wouldn't it be conceivable (in #4's mind at least) that he could come in on Nov 2nd after their 8th game and "save" their season? This is of course, subject to a number of factors such as what their record would be at that point, or how Jackson or Rosenfels have played to that point ("Rex is our QB" type season or genuinely solid) or even injuries. He may also think that since he broke down as the season wore on last year, that if he comes in mid-season, he'll still be somewhat fresh at the end and potentially the playoffs.

Coming in on Nov 2nd would give him two weeks to work with the players and get some rhythm going (Testaverde's done this before - coming off the couch to play in a game the next week I think), before they play the Lions who likely won't be that improved from their 0-16 season (theoretically of course). Also from his legacy/ego stantpoint, wouldn't that keep his Consecutive Games played streak going or does "retirement" break it?

I won't think it's "over" until we get to that point and he's still in Mississippi, and even then, I still think it'll only be "over" for this season. If he stays home, I think we'll still hear rumblings of him having thoughts about one more run next summer.

Now we (Vikings fans) get to watch the much anticipated battle between Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfeld for teh QB spot. Oooh. I'm waiting with baited breath. Honestly, I could see the Vikes sucking for the first four weeks, the Favre saying, "Oh, wait! I can play! How about me?", and Childress will say, "No thanks."

Just curious Vikings fans, is John David Booty really that bad that he can't compete with Jackson & Rosenfels?

I thought this had the Packers logo a few days ago when it started. I was going to post that as a Packers fan, I want no part of Brett Favre until he's been fully retired for a couple of years. Either it got changed or I misread it.

I would be of the opinion that the first game that he is not starting, whether he is signed by a team or not, ends the streak. In this instance, I would opine that week 1 would end the streak.

From Peter King's interview with Favre (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/peter_king/07/29/favre/index.html)

"I really believe this is it. I truly, truly believe it's over. But if someone calls Nov. 1, who knows?"

It got changed by your benevolent dictator. It never occurred to me to use the Jets logo, honestly.

You mean an injury-prone DB who has more "name" than "talent"? Yeah, that sadly DOES sound like a Patriots DB. /sobs
