Actually, I am pretty sure US soldiers can rape and kill as many foreign civilians they want.
That's one of the most disgusting, fucked-up things I've ever heard.
As a US Army Ranger, I would like to say "fuck you."
Well, I am going to eat a little crow here....
While I do feel there is a bit of a double standard on these issues regarding the military (the Navy scandals, the assualts in okinawa, etc), I have no desire to upset anyone to that degree, and apologize for my comments. I should have included them in a specific context rather than a broad generalization. But I'll let the issue alone...
I am very sorry... I seriously did not mean to upset you.

| #42 Posted on 25.3.03 1019.56 | Instant Rating: 6.28 | I personally think Israel is a reprehensible country whose soldiers act like savages, but I don't think that's really worth getting into.
Well, you just kind of did here, didn't you?
I'd just like to point out that when judging Israel, you use a collective notion and judge the whole country and its entire military based on what you read in the papers about various bad incidents. When judging, say, the United States, don't judge the entire country and the entire army on the basis of bad incidents you read in the paper, as is evidenced here (from another thread):
Newsflash, hero: War crimes happen all the time. We were responsible for a shitload of them in Vietnam. Does that mean every American is responsible for the disgusting actions of certain US servicemen during that war? Of course not. War criminals are responsible for war crimes, not the average citizens of their respective nations.
And in fact, judging by this quote
That's one of the most disgusting, fucked-up things I've ever heard.
As a US Army Ranger, I would like to say "fuck you."
you seem to get pretty pissed off when people do.
So as the husband of a former Israeli army officer, I would like to say "fuck you, and your fuck your bullshit double standards."

"When I first got to Hebron I wouldn't open fire on little children. And I was sure that if I ever killed or hurt anyone, I'd go so crazy that I'd leave the army. But finally I did shoot someone, and nothing happened to me. In Hebron I shot the legs off of two kids, and I was sure I wouldn't be able to sleep anymore at night, but nothing happened. Two weeks ago I hurt a palestinian policeman, and that didn't affect me either. You become so apathetic you don't care at all. Shooting is the IDF soldier's way of meditating. It's like shooting is your way of letting go of all your anger when you're in the army. In Hebron there's this order they call 'punitive shooting': just open fire on whatever you like. I opened fire not on any sources of fire but on windows where there was just wash hanging to dry. I knew that there were people who would be hit."
"Tho officer stops the vehicle and asks, 'Who's ready?' I step out, another guy steps out, and then about 300 yards from us we see a poor Bedouin shepherd walking out on the grass at the firing ground. The officer says, 'Okay, go ahead." We lie down, one bullet to the left of the herd, one bullet to the right of the herd..."
"If anyone were to tell me, 'You have to open fire on a seven-year-old girl,' I'd shoot without hesitation."
These quotes were taken from an interview with Israeli soldiers conducted by Israeli journalist Uri Blau and printed in Kol Ha'Ir, a Jerusalem weekly, in September 2001.
In the US Army, your ass would be court-marshalled for this shit, so fuck double standards.
My statement was poorly phrased. I don't think that all Israeli soldiers are savages, but they are allowed to get away with disgusting shit, apparently, because these guys kept serving in the army and actually were publicly interviewed.
That would not be the case in the US Army.
Moo hoo ha ha.
