After the shocking (to me) elimination of Paul last week, we are down to our top 7. Although I have not watched every season, I have spoken to people who have and they all agree this is the strongest top 7 (and top10 for that matter) American Idol has ever had.

To start, the previous eliminated come out to Pink's "So What". The girls all seem generally excited to be there, even Pia who must realize she is going to be fine after she was cut two weeks ago. Paul comes out solo, as the only eliminated Male so far, and seems less interested. I will say, I would rather have Paul in my top 7 than Stefano. Decent showing and nice of AI to let the previous cut come back.

I am not sure if they did this in seasons past, but prior to each person singing, they have pre recorded interviews with the other 6 to talk about said person. I will say, it gives you more insight into their personalities and I enjoyed it - especialyl Casey and James.

Scotty is first and he is singing LeAnn Rimes "Swinging". He does a good job but it is nothing spectacular - and for top 7 am looking ofr spectacular. I feel if Scotty does not try ANYTHING different but country, he will have a tough time winning this. I do beleive he will be safe this week.

James is next and sings Muse's "Uprising". He comes out with marching band drummers and it looks good. However, as much as they judges loved it, I thought the song was flat. I really love Uprising and feel James added nothing to this song. Much like Scotty, he issticking in his comfort zone, which will get him far, but not the win. he will be safe this week, but I feel his "rocker" songs will turn off voters of those who get eliminated and ar elooking to gives their votes elsewhere.

Haley is out next and sings one of my currect favorite songs - Adele's "Rolling in the Deep". I feared she would butcher it as it is a tough song but she did well. Again, nothing great - the song had high points and low points. I feel if she shows more consistency, she just may win this whole thing. She should be safe this week.

Jacob followed her with Luther Vandross' "Dance With My Father". I love this song and said to my wife: here is where Jacob KILLS everyone else. And he failed. I was stunned. I am not a big Jacob fan but I thought this would be the song of the night. Any emotion he had during practice for this song was gone tonight. This will land him in the bottom three.

Casey came next and took on Maroon 5 "Harder to Breathe". I love this kid. He takes chances and has sung rock, blues, jazz, pop and grunge. And all well. I feel artists liek Casey are hard to come by and he gets my vote each week. He kills this song. I loved his version and loved the end where he walked up to JLo, softly sang the last lines and then kissed her cheek. The kid has balls. He gets better each week and I feel America is starting to come around to him more. He is safe this week and continues to strengthen his chances of winning.

Stefano was next. I can honestly say I do not like his singing or personality. I saw Ne-Yo perform this song life and Stefano did it no justice. I think he is lucky to still be here and should land firmly in the bottom three. If by some miracle he wins this all, I am done. I think of all the top 7 singers, he will have the WORST career, if any. Next.

Lauren closed the show with Sara Evans' "Born to Fly". I usualy do not agree with Randy but he was spot on - she is holding back. If she evers decides "screw it - I am going for it" she will run and hide from the rest of this group. She does OK, but it will not be enough to keep her from the bottom three.

SAFE - Scotty, James, Haley and Casey
BOTTOM 3 - Jacob, Stefano and Lauren
GOING HOME - Stefano (please)

I am fully enjoying this season and even do not mind Randy and JLo - both of whom I usually can't stand.

Looking forward to next week.

Life is hilariously cruel.

I started to like him just a little bit after watching him be funny and self-deprecating in the packages. But he's so nonchalant now. He's all like "yeah, whatever, I got this" with the judges. He won't win, but he doesn't have to. He's set.

I think if you take out last week's performance, she's been one of the most consistently good contestants this season. And I always underestimate her.

Casey and James own this show now.

What are the chances this got him even MORE support? I fear they are high.

Mr. Shh,

I agree on Scotty - I did like him more after the packages and he seems like a nice kid. However, I think he KNOWS he has a very successful career ahead of him and feels he does not have to win this to be successful.

Casey and James killed the pre taped packages - especially Casey. I think showing his funny side will garner him more votes. I pray he does not go home this week - that owuld be an outrage.

As for Stefano - even my kids do not like him (ages 12,11,7 and 6). I don't know how he stays around - he is like Sanjaya with a little more (ok a lot more) talent.

Jacob leaving would not bother me at all. However, if he stays, I could see one MONSTER song from him that just blows everyone else away.

Haley SUCKS. PERIOD. She tries to hard to be sexy and use that "janice" voice. You either have it, or you don't, and she DOES NOT. I wish she would get cut, even if it means Stefano makes it another week.

Edit: Not to mention she has that child beauty pageant smile on her face all the time. She's just a fucking mess.

The relationship between Hearst and Aunt Lou is one of the more compelling parts of the show for me. I keep wondering if it will lead anywhere now that the inevitable death of Odel has occurred. This slow build this season is really well executed.
