Due to some crazy-assed weather (seattlepi.nwsource.com) we had no power until about 8:20 last night, so we just tuned in as George was getting told by Simon how "amateurish" he was. I had very low expectations for tonight's show with the theme of Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine. Pretty cool that the actual MSM played backup for the idols. Of course, Gloria is possibly the WORST judge ever. Like they had another Paula with even less personality. Where's Quentin when you need him?

- I first catch LaToya London singing "Rhythm is Gonna Get You". She give her most "fun" and energetic performance, but the song doesn't show off the best qualities of her voice. Simon notes that while it wasn't her best singing performance, her dancing and overall energy showed a different side of her and it was good to show that because she was in danger of becoming boring.

- On the one hand, I'd hoped I'd missed John Stevens (dubbed "Beaker" by our local sports radio guys), but on the other hand his performance of "Music of my Heart" is so unbelieveably BAD it couldn't be missed. Plus he dedicated it to his grandma. I'd be pissed if I was her, because this was HORRIBLE. I actually said aloud that I missed Jennifer Hudson at this point. Blah. GO AWAY, BEAKER BOY!

- Was the Subway commercial here? All I can say is that John Stevens never looked finer on this show than he did in the green Subway polo shirt and visor.

- I like Jasmine. She's by far the cutest girl left and she can sing OK, but she keeps trying songs that are way out of her league. Take her performance of "Here We Are" this week. She started out well enough, but by the middle of the song it was a train wreck. She could've won this had she picked better songs that fit her talent level, but she kept shooting too high, like insisting on playing on All-Madden level with only Pro level game.

- Diana is last with "Turn the Beat Around", and she gives an outstanding performance that only underscores how poorly Jasmine is doing with her song choices. Diana also has a nice voice, but you can tell she's been at this longer than Jasmine. Simon rips on her dress, but face it, when (if) she loses that baby fat Diana could be HOT. (She's 16? I feel so dirty, but it's true.) Did NOT need to see Matt Rogers groovin' in the audience, however.

Is this the week John Stevens goes? He deserves it, but who the hell knows anymore? I'd suspect he gets voted out as America does a correction over last week's ridiculous bottom three.

My mom keeps telling me that LaToya is better than anyone from the last two seasons, but I don't see it. At this point the last two years, there were at least two people who I thought could be the winners. This year, I'm not sure if I can even see one. My sister is all in love with George, but everytime I watch, he just doesn't sound quite right. "Beaker" was so so so so terrible.

The two singers you missed, Fantasia and George, didn't suck, but they weren't great either.

LaToya wasn't actively bad either, but her song wasn't that challenging. "The rhythym is gonna get you." (repeat 50x)

John Stevens' performance was one of the worst performance I'd ever heard on this show. I loved Simon's comments to him.

Jasmine I didn't think was that bad, but, your Madden analogy is so very right.

Diana gave the best performance of the night last night, and I agree with everything you said about her. That dress was UGLY though.

Fantasia was not good - Randy hit it when he said Good Performance but the vocals were missing - too many shout outs to Jennifer Hudson probably won't help her either

George now has 3 bad weeks in a row - how long can you slide on good early performances ?

LaToya was better than Fantasia & George but last night that wasn't saying much. She did look comfortable singing with a band. She should not be in trouble.

Little Sinatra (Beaker) was just so bad AGAIN. If he hit 3 notes right it is only because the notes came to him in the song. He is monotone and sings with absolutely no inflection. Please America, send him home.

Jasmine was okay to start and wore out near the end. JJD's Madden analogy hit it right on the end. At least she didn't go for the power note at the end this week.

Diana won the week - which isn't saying much.

Bottom 3 should be Beaker, Fantasia & George based on the performances but will probably be Fantasia, George & Jasmine.

John is finally out of there. The bottom three was right, I thought. I certainly won't be shedding any tears when Fantasia gets voted off.

And with John out, that eliminates the rest of the dead weight. About time. Now it gets GOOD. I can honestly see anyone from this bunch taking it all.

But I was concerned for George Huff for a second there. Imagine the uproar if HE had been voted off?

So there you go. Three out of the final five are black. Can we put an end to this ridiculous racism accusation?

Could George have hugged Boy Conan a little longer? He didn't die, he got booted off a talent show about 5 weeks too late.

La Toya and Fantasia are the only ones with "star quality", IMO. No one else in the contest has had any kind of stage presence, star quality, or charisma like them. You could actually see them on one of those lame ass MTV shows and think they actually belonged there.

Little Sinatra needed to go and I am glad he did. Too bad for him that it is Big Band Week next week.

I won't buy a CD from any of the Final 5 this year because I don't think any of them are worth it.
