Tonight, we have the girls as they also compete for 6 spots in the Top 12. The last night of 3 Idols a week too, which is great, makes actually writing about it much easier.

-The show starts off tonight with Jordan Sparks. She breaks out the Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker” tonight, and sounds good doing it. She cruises through with ease, and should have no problem at all grabbing one of the half-dozen spots. If she can hang with Lakisha and Melinda, she’s got a good chance, she does have the “look” factor going for her more than they do. Randy comments that it’s a totally different atmosphere with the girls than the guys, and for the better, which is 100% correct.

-Sabrina Sloan follows with “Don’t Let Go” by En Vogue. It was good, but nothing special in my opinion, however, she should also be safe, but for some reason I’m scared she may not be. She’s definitely been better in past weeks.

-Third up is Antonella Barba, who has squeaked by elimination the past two weeks. She sings Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Record On”, and if she’s nothing else she’s consistent. Consistently bad, but consistent nonetheless. I’d say she’s a lock to go home, but she may squeak by again. Simon gives her kudos for the media attention she’s gotten, but just thinks she’s up against some really talented girls, which he may be very right on.

-Batting clean-up is Haley Scranato tonight, singing “If My Heart Had Wings“ by Faith Hill. She’s ok, but I think she’s in the same boat as Antonella, she’s just up against too stiff of competition. If one of them two were to sneak by, I would prefer it be Haley, but I’m guessing she’s probably gone.

-The second half of the show gets started with Stephanie Edwards. The song is “Sweet Thing” by Chaka Khan. She’s got a powerful voice and I get that, but I don’t think she did very well tonight. Should easily be safe, but this was an off night for her. She doesn’t really stand out to me, but that could just be me.

-Next up is LaKisha Jones with “I Have Nothing” from Whitney Houston. Just wow. She has to be the front runner to win the entire thing. As my better half so elegantly put it, “that bitch can sing whatever she wants to sing.” There was never a question that she wasn’t safe, she’s good to go.

Lucky number seven tonight is Gina Glocksen. I thought going in she might be one of the ones on the bubble, to borrow a March Madness term. She goes current with “Don’t Call Me When You’re Sober” by Evanescence. She maybe wasn’t the best of the night, but I would hope she would be safe over Antonella, and yeah, Haley too. Simon happened to hit the nail on the head the way I feel about her, with the Melinda and LaKisha and Stephanies this year, she is a breath of fresh air. He should do this music thing for a living.

-Closing up shop tonight is Melinda Dolittle, singing “I’m a Woman” by well according to Google, Bette Midler. She like LaKisha doesn’t have anything to worry about, but doesn’t let that stop her from bringing the good. She’s safe, and her and LaKisha battling for the crown will be fun to watch the next 11 weeks.

How I Rank ‘Em:

1t. LaKisha Jones
1t. Melinda Dolittle
3. Jordan Sparks
4. Sabrina Sparks
5. Gina Glockson
6. Stephanie Edwards
7. Haley Scranato
8. Antonella Barba

I think either Haley or Antonella are gone, and I have a funny feeling that Stephanie might get the boot too, as a complete surprise. Could easily be Gina as well, but I’m just hoping she gets by for one more week.

Mods, I oopsed and didn't get to choose the proper icon to go with this, could someone put it on there for me? Thanks.

Thanks for the correction Tribal. I've made the necessary corrections above.

Jordan was ok I guess. But one of those, oh I forgot about her, at the end type performances. She's cute and I hope she sticks around.

Sabrina was blah. I don't think she has any personality and it's going to hurt her in tonights voting.

Antonella was the same as always. She's just not that talented and clearly a stuck up bitch to boot. What a classic combination!!

Haley - wow you are sooooo gone. Finally. My wife put it best when saying this would have been killer in a Ms America competition. Booooring.

Stephanie does zip for me. Kinda ok singer, but not all that great and was boring tonight.

I don't get the Lakisha love at this point. Yes she can sing, but seems like she has nothing original to bring. I was shocked the judges complained just one or two girls before about sounding too much like the original and then Lakisha comes out and does note for note almost the original song and they stay quiet. I don't think she stands much chance of winning overall, though she's not bad at all. Just not enough to her.

Gina was what I think we all expected her to be. I still think she is in trouble because she doesn't have a strong fan base but she really needs to stick around and change things up from the other girls for a few more weeks at least.

Melinda - Are you kidding me? How anyone could even consider saying any of the other girls came anywhere close to Melinda tonight is just beyond explanation. She outclassed them by one million miles. You can see her confidence grow every week. There is no Lakisha vs Melinda. That debate is already way past over.

Gone: Haley and Antonella
Bubble: Sabrina, Stephanie and Gina

Melinda is in a different league. She is outstanding. Though Gina did bring the outfit tonight.

I thought that Haley was gone the week that she gushed on & on about her fiancee - she and her Cindy Crawford mole lost all the horny teenage boy votes at that point.

Antonella's only hope is a heavy voter turnout from VoteForTheWorst.com - she is horrible. I did read in the paper today that Joe Francis wants her to host his next GGW video so that's a bonus.

Lakisha can bring the house down but she is going to have some trouble with some of the genre/theme weeks is my guess.

Melinda killed.

An argument could be made that all 8 women should go through and only 4 of the guys make it but the producers don't have the balls to do that - do they ?

Antonella hasn't been "squeaking" by, she's been in the top four every week as far as votes go. Sonjaya too. The early rounds are fun.

Melinda is an awesome singer, but she's all wrong for this competition, which means that she'll be voted off in the top four like Elliot last year. She's just not "current" enough to gain a significant amount of votes in the later rounds. It'll be interesting to see what she does with the Theme weeks.

Honestly, the only person in this year's competition that I can see coming out and having immediate sucess is Blake. He's got a decent voice and the right personality fit for this contest.

I admit I haven't watched many results shows 100% of the way through this year, but I don't remember them ever giving away who was getting the most votes compared to the others. Have they said anything about "top 4" or anything? That would seem weird to do this early in a popularity contest where voting for the "cool" one can sometimes take over.

I know that there are phone surveys or polls or something that supposedly tell how people are voting, but those have been proven wrong almost weekly. I think the biggest one was the week someone last year (Daughtry?) went home, and the phone polls had said he was last place (should have gone home) the previous couple weeks, but safe the week he was kicked out. It can give rough estimates, but so can throwing darts at a dartboard.

Also, I thought 'If My Heart Had Wings' was a Faith Hill song, not Martina McBride.

I think dialidol is the most popular site that trys to track results. Basically people can use their program on a PC with a modem to power dial and it sends back info on how many busy signals and votes they were able to put in and uses that to provide a guess. Its actually decently accurate once they get down to a few less people.

The only time I can recall them saying results was the first week I think when they basically said Sanjaya was top four.

I'll throw my predictions into the hat:

Bottom 2 girls:
-Stephanie
-Sabrina

Bottom 2 guys:
-Jared
-Phil

People will be shocked that Haley and Sonjaya are still around.

It's far too predictable at this point to be shocking.

Melinda is obviously they best singer but I find her extremely annoying. She's not just shy and quiet in a cute way she's like on a completely new level that bugs me. She reminds me of the shy cop on Police Academy who is too scared to actually stop any criminals. I can imagine a manager or record label just totally screwing her because she is afraid to do anything. Plus, whether she hasn't broken any rules or not I think it's pretty cheap that she has been a professional backup singer.

Blake is definitely the favorite though, but who knows one bad performance can sink you. I think Melinda is good enough to last to the last two though just because there isn't much competition. But I agree she'll be ousted earlier than she should like Elliot last year (who by the way finally has an album coming out March 20th).

I like Jordin the best though. Not the best singer but good enough and very likable.

I didn't think it was all that logical for YJ to go after the IL when the JLA is busy with planets. Batman would not allow anyone, but himself to go after Joker. They at least got their asses kicked which made sense. The Dr. Fate helmet was a nice touch....
