Richard Sharpstein, an attorney who represented Taylor in a criminal case, said the player's father told him his son had been shot in the leg and there was much bleeding because the femoral artery was severed.
The Miami Herald reported paramedics found Taylor with a gunshot wound to the groin. A family friend who did not want to be identified told ABC-TV 10 in Miami that Taylor was shot twice.
Investigators were still interviewing the girlfriend and other relatives who were in the home to try to determine what happened, Perez said.

I was lucky to be able to watch him in person in his pro debut against the Buccaneers and you could tell there was something special about him. He was a force on the field. We all waited for the next awesome Sean Taylor moment. Go to youtube and find videos of his hits. He was great.
I don't care if he ever makes it back to the field. I just want him to recover and be ok.

And considering that he was shot in the leg, one would imagine that amputation should have been an option. I have a feeling something went terribly wrong that no one could have anticipated.
Just terrible news.

Reading the article that ESPN (sports.espn.go.com) has up, it almost seems like they may have overstated how responsive he was:

There had been concern about the amount of blood that he lost, but this is still a shock.

I don't think it was the damage to his leg from the gunshot that killed him. I think it was the blood loss from having that femoral artery ripped apart. From what I've read, that's the one blood vessel you don't want anything to happen to.
Having just watched his team scratch and claw and fight to the death against my boys not two days ago, I can't imagine what his teammates are going through right now - whether this is the last bit of news that will send them into a tailspin, or whether this will inspire them.
Senseless.

Phenomenal player with massive potential (as an Eagles fan I don't think I saw a safety who controlled Westbrook better), but more importantly we're talking about a 24 year-old kid losing their life, and a child losing their dad.

For what it's worth the BBC's reporting that it was a result of blood loss from the femoral artery. Had really hoped and expected he would pull through though.

| #14 Posted on 27.11.07 0807.20 | Instant Rating: 3.08 | Such a shame. One of my favorite Youtube videos that I watch from time to time is during an FSU/Miami game a few years ago. Greg Jones runs up the middle and just plowed over Taylor like he wasn't there. I don't say this to make fun, but the reason I loved watching so much is because of the immense respect I had for Taylor as a player. I saw him just destroy people with brutal hits time and time again. Every time we played Miami he scared me more than anyone on those teams. Every time the ball went over the middle I expected the worst. That was the only play I recall someone getting the best of him.
I don't think I'll get the same feeling watching that video anymore.
I sure hope they catch whoever did this. | Zeruel

I went shopping last night and it was amazing to see so many Skins jerseys being worn after a loss and 90% of them were for #21.
We don't retire numbers here in DC (which sucks) but if any needs to be, his has to be on that list.

He never made it downstairs and according to the GF, the phone lines were cut and she had to make the call from her cell, delaying the rescue teams.
Oh, and something I didn't know, the girlfriend is actor Andy Garcia's daughter and highschool sweetheart.

It's too early to tell yet, but there is at least some thought that perhaps this was his past catching up with him. (So the lesson would be to be careful what kind of company you keep and what kind of activities you get involved with.) The whole thing with the phone lines being cut, no items actually taken, bursting into the bedroom firing, etc. makes it sound like that this might not have been just a random act. But as I said, it's too early to tell, the investigators will have to sort it all out.
