re: Oliver
That WAS an awesome year for one of my favorite non-HoFers. Since Staub played more OF than 1B....

If MLB allows the team to play on, Vidro, Cabrera, and Vlad form a very solid offensive nucleus to go along with Vazquez, Armas, and Pavano. (assuming they can keep these players.)

| #23 Posted on 17.5.02 1217.22 | According to our TV announcer, Dennis Martinez threw 9 innings of a perfect game only to lose in the 10th against the Padres. I don't remember this happening in 89... anyone remember this?

And (dont know if this has been mentioned yet) Pedro threw a rain-shortened no-hitter, I think for the Spos, that was wiped from the record books during the purge a few years ago.

Pedro did though.
He didn't lose the game, but he lost the bid for a perfect game, left the game with the lead and allowed Mel Rojas to close things down.

1991 Jul 28 Dennis Martinez Mtl vs LA NL 2-0 Perfect game
I just went back to said webpage (www.baseball1.com) and printed the list off so I list the other Expo no-nos:
10/2/72 -- Bill Stoneman - vs Mets - 7-0
5/10/81 -- Charlie Lea - vs Giants - 4-0 - 2nd game of DH
7/26/91 -- Mark Gardner - vs LA - 0-1 - 9 ip no-hit, lose in 10th
The list stops in 98. There may be more.

He may have been wrong though.

| #28 Posted on 19.5.02 2343.53 | A lot of novelty support for the Expos on this board lately. Other than having some pretty funky hats, a shitty stadium and getting screwed out of their only good year in '95, I don't see much use in them. I have no problem with them being contracted. Now the Twins on the other hand have a history of fan support and winning. That would be a team I would be sad to see go.
