"Former WCW star Alan Funk was seriously injured in Helsinki, Finland working for the Battleground Valhalla promotion on 9/27.

During a tag team match featuring Funk and Mike Sanders against Elix Skipper and Sonny Siaki, Funk was injured when Siaki hit a moonsault and came down on Funk's face.

Funk, who is currently hospitalized in Helsinki, suffered among other injuries, a broken eye socket, a broken nose, a broken jaw, and a broken eardrum. Funk was immediately taken to the locker room after the injury to be worked on while Skipper and Sanders continued the match. I was told the injury looked very scary.

Funk, who trained at the old WCW Power Plant, debuted on Television as Kwee-Wee under the Vince Russo regime towards the end of the WCW run. After the promotion was purchased by World Wrestling Entertainment, he was sent to the then-developmental promotion HWA, where he worked as The Funkster, doing a Hulk Hogan parody that he eventually used on several World Wrestling All-Stars PPVs. Funk also worked early NWA TNA PPVs as Rainbow Express member Bruce and had just completed a tour of All Japan Pro Wrestling.

Other matches on the Helsinki show saw NWA champion AJ Styles defeat Jonny Storm, MLW champion Steve Corino defeat Shane Douglas, and Kid Kash defeating Shark Boy. One report listed the live attendance at close to 2,000."

Damn, that kinda sounds sick just reading about it. I really hope he gets well. I don't think there is anything more to say then "holy crap I hope he is ok."

It was bound to happen sooner or later

That sounds like a pretty nasty injury, but I'm glad it wasnt a "He is unable to feel his lower extremities, his career is over" type injury, which is what I was expecting to read when I saw the thread.

A broken jaw and nose should heal and aren't that bad by themselves(ask a boxer). But a broken EYE SOCKET! and ear drum? That sounds horrible. Even Mick Foley can't beat him there! How do you break an eye socket? And an ear drum breaking isn't something that is going to really heal itself completely.
Like DJFROSTYFREEZE said, good thing he isn't paralyzed, but that still sounds serious. Wish him a quick recovery and all the best.

I ruptured my ear drum once. Don't know how close it was to "breaking" but I'll tell ya, it wasn't fun.

If I remember correctly, Jeff Hardy broke Matt Hardy's eye socket with a particularly crappy Swanton Bomb on Raw a few years back when whoever was calling the shots (Triple H?) made Jeff and Edge team up to fight Matt and Christian. I believe Matt recovered in about 3 weeks. *Shrugs*

One of my buddies broke his eyesocket in a big brawl a couple of years ago- His eye was all bloody and his face was a little swollen, but it wasn't bad. I'd be more cooncerned with his eardrum- He may lose his hearing in one ear.

Undertaker suffered a broken eyesocket back when he was still a zombie, thanks (IIRC) to a flubbed move by Mabel. It resulted in his wearing a really, really stupid skull mask that Vince insisted on calling a "facial appliance".

So, in conclusion, I hope Mr. Funk recovers well, and that he finds a better mask than 'Taker did.

What does he mean he debuted under the name Kwee-Wee?!? What about all those great Saturday Night matches that he had as Angry Alan Funk?!?

But I guess Saterday Night doesn't count as a TV show. After all, it was just about the most entertaining WCW program (to me) that was out there. Where else could I get my Disorderly Conduct goodness?

Every time I think of going into training for pro rasslin', something like this reminds me why I shouldn't.

His WCW debut was on a Saturday Night as Angry Alan Funk against Kid Romeo - who was also making his WCW debut.

Kid Romeo won because moving your hands in circles was just that much cooler than sticking out your tongue and giving a thumbs down.

But Alan got his heat back with a win the following week - and something special was born.

Then along came Kwee-Wee. 1 step forward, 9 steps back.

GOD BLESS VINCE RUSSO.

Normally, right about here is where I would go into breathtaking detail about his marvelous, yet cut all too short feud with Barry Horowitz in the WXO, but I'm understandably lazy tonight
