You wanted the best, you got... Out of Context Quote of the Week.

"Because personally if I was being choked by Ric Flair, my personal reaction would be well, "Glrrrrkkk, can't breathe" but after that... "Man, I'm being choked out by Ric Flair, this is so cool." and then some more "Gllllrrrrk, can't breathe."" (Llakor)

Thanks to what ESPN's people called shoddy officiating (thanks, Sun Belt Conference!), Michigan's out of timeouts against Nebraska, who just drove to take a four-point lead. Punt return brings the ball to the Wolverines 34.

Why, this calls for a hook-and-ladder. (Well, 66 yards is probably too much for Chad Henne's arm.) So they run just that, and it's not going so well. Eventually, Michigan's backed up behind the original line of scrimmage after five laterals and they're lateralling to a lineman (Michigan #54, Mark Bihl). Predictably, the lineman can't handle it, but since it's a lateral, the ball's still live. Nebraska comes onto the field, yay, game's over, whoops, Michigan just recovered it. And TE Tyler Ecker's hauling ass down the field. Thanks to the only two Nebraska defenders who were still paying attention, Ecker can only take it to the Nebraska 15. Phew.

You'll see this play a million times in the next couple of days, I'm sure.

Surely I wasn't the only one up off the couch at the end screaming at Ecker "Lateral to Breaston!"

What an unspeakably badly officiated game, and props to Mike Tirico (yes, actual praise for ESPN) for having the courage to call them out on it. The officials not winding the play clock on Nebraska's last possession was outright criminal.

I am probably way too wrapped up in the emotion of it right now and haven't thoroughly processed it, but as a Michigan fan I wouldn't be sad to see Lloyd Carr go at this point. I have exactly zero faith in the Maize & Blue to make a key play offensively when it has to, and they have far too good of skill people and a pass-protecting line to feel that way.

I was thinking to when the last time I actually felt like Michigan could make a play on offense to seize control of or ice a game, and with the exception of the 1997 year when Charles Woodson (who was like Superman on the college level), I have to go back to Gary Moeller days, and that just shouldn't happen.

The officiating was bad, but so was Tirico wanting a flag for Huskers being on the field when near the end of the run back, there were plenty of Wolverines on the sidelines as well was just crazy.

Great game despite the bad officiating, although Michigan shouldn't have blown the lead like they did.

I love OSU, but UM got jobbed.

As they were talking on the radio this morning (Mike & Mike), Schlereth was saying "at least have offsetting penalties, maybe replay the down to have it be fair." As a Brownies fan, they got shafted one game thanks to the Dwayne Rudd Knuclehead Helmet Toss(TM) at the end, but at least the rules were followed in assessing the penalty. Not so here, and that's a shame.

I was taken by how calmly Michigan executed that play, like having seven lateral and a play that retreats thirty yards in the middle is the most natural thing in the world.

Ecker should've tossed the ball back over his shoulder right before he was tackled, IMO. The key moment that play because an "uh-oh" for Nebraska fans was right after the fumbled lateral, Mike Hart picked up that ball and suddenly FIVE Cornhusker defenders were behind him. So close.

Allright, that's it. Between the Lions, Wolverines, and Spartans - 17 wins, 21(soon to be 22) losses. Wow, how does U of M lose to Nebraska? This is unreal. But fear not, for I have a solution. Since we here in Michigan obviously have no idea how to play winning football, please take our teams away from us. The Fords don't know how to put a winning football team together. C'mon, Millen still has a job! So the only logical conclusion is to take the ball from them. I can find another football team to root for. The Pistons and the Red Wings are good, I can back them. I just can't stand the utter humiliation that is football in the State of Michigan. I know, most people look at U of M and say "7 and 5, that's not bad." To those people, I say "Normally, yes, that's not bad, but it is bad when you were expected to finish 3RD OVERALL IN THE COUNTRY!" Maybe that's why Tim White shot himself, he was a Lions fan. Goodbye, football. It's been... uh, it's, um, well, bye.

On behalf of all Spartans and Wolverines fans, please don't lump in those respected programs with the flaming pile of garbage that is the Lions.

And Central Michigan University's Gary Hogeboom finished a very respectable 7th on Survivor this season, so there you go.

Oklahoma 17 Oregon 14: Second straight year the second place Pac 10 team complained about not being in the BCS and then lost to a mid pack Big 12 team in the Holiday Bowl.

LSU 40 Miami 3: When LSU was running the fake field goal at 34-3 in the 3rd quarter and the fake punt with under 5 minutes to go at 40-3, I could just picture Gerry Faust watching this game and smiling. Does the 'Coker Watch' for Butch Davis really kick in now?

And I really don't think you can blame the players. I have never seen such horrible play calling. After starting the game out with some exciting football, the offense started to try some strange things. For example, running the option to the same side 3 plays in a row for a 3 and out. Not throwing the ball more than 7 yards downfield when we are down in the second half.
The Oklahoma coaching staff ran a clinic on the Oregon staff. They changed up their game plan at half and used Adrian Peterson more and more(as opposed to a lot of PA in the 1st half). Oregon couldn't make the adjustment got schooled.
It was awful to watch. And they almost won. They were down by 3 with the ball at Oklahoma's 15 or so with 45 seconds. But then QB #2 underthrew Demetrius Williams and it was picked off by a linebacker who MISSED his assignment(he was supposed to blitz!!!).

Pitiful. Just a pitiful performance. They didn't play anything close to that badly the entire season. Oklahoma didn't play all that well either. It was a let down of a trip after Joey Harrington's performance against TExas in 2000.

Wow. You might wanna separate some of that excuse-making into multiple posts in the future. Makes it easier to digest (although no more believable).

Rather than start a new college bowl game thread, I'll add to here.

WHOOOOOOO!!!! Ohio State SMOKED Notre Dame yesterday. What an amazing display of speed. Good calls on replays that got the Gonzales incompletion and the Walker TD correct. I really wish Smith had been at full speed when we played Texas, now we can only dream about what could have been.

As for Georgia and West Virginia, wow. Somebody made some money off of that game.

617 yards?! It usually takes them three games to rack up that many yards!

Oh, and did you know that A.J. Hawk is dating Brady Quinn's sister? What a story that is!

Even though it's basketball season and the Cavs are racing their way to a 60-loss campaign and the Indians are gearing up for a 100-loss campaign, all I can really think about is: Tim Couch or Kelly Holcomb? Who should start for the Browns?
