| #1 Posted on 8.2.03 2021.11 | I've been playing Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 for a while now, and I just started thinking - why did Asmik stop developing wrestling games for these Nintendo systems? I'm sure they were selling just fine, so what gives? I see this crap about Def Jam Vendetta, but I saw some videos and it looks like the gameplay is sped up ala Smackdown to suit EA BIG's style. I'm not impressed.
Imagine WWF No Mercy with beefed up music, character models, modes, etc? Add the features of Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth with the actual gameplay of VPW2 and No Mercy, and that's the greatest wrestling game, period.
Anybody know why they stopped making them, or if there's any hope for future games?
ahem....

| #3 Posted on 9.2.03 1258.20 | They're still making wrestling games, just not WWE games unfortunately. Def Jam Vendetta and Ultimate Muscle are both developed by AKI and are coming out in a few months. Def Jam Vendetta is practically No Mercy 2 if you ignore the lack of WWE Superstars.

And if you ignore the Smackdown style gameplay, the lack of wrestlers and actual technical wrestling, and CAWs, then sure - it's practically No Mercy 2. Heh. What's this Ultimate Muscle that I'm hearing about?

Ultimate Muscle is a Saturday morning wrestling cartoon that recently aired on the Fox network. It's worth looking at, especially if you're a wrestling fan.
As for the game, it looks like it'll be done with cel-shading, and has characters from both Ultimate Muscle and the old Kinnikuman series. Gamespot released an article about this, which can be seen here:

It also comes with create-a-wrestler features, if I'm not mistaken, so I'm definitely gonna check it out.

For my money, VPW2 was the best.

Have they confirmed, one way or another, that there's no CAW in DJV? Everything I've seen has ignored it to talk about the rappers and the crazy-ass finishers they put in.
And gameplay-wise, the playable demo a buddy of mine has seems to indicate that it's still very much a No Mercy-style game...

| #8 Posted on 14.2.03 1847.37 | I think anyone here in their 20s oughta remember MUSCLEs. You know, those 1 inch tall pink figures that we all somehow had dozens of that none of us have any idea what in the hell ever happened to.

Umm, have you even PLAYED DJV? I've got the demo, it's very UN-Smackdown. It has the location damage and all the moves I've grown to love from No Mercy. It plays exactly like No Mercy.
And if I could play WCW vs. the World and WCW/nWo Revenge when I hated WCW I'm sure I can deal with having rappers instead of wrestlers. Hell, there's only 12 rappers in a roster of around 45 guys.

| #11 Posted on 15.2.03 1058.57 | I am sure I heard DJV has no CAW but if it sells well (it will) the sequel will. I will get any wrestling related game. Be it gems like Pride and SD to clunkers like Legends of Wrestling and UFC. I got Splinter Cell, GTA VC, Metroid Prime, Res Evil 0, The Getaway. And all I play whenever I have time is Smackdown 4. Well at work I do indulge in a little Extreme Warfare Revenge. ;)
