Alas, it's official. Adult Swim will not be renewing Home Movies after episode 52 debuts on Sunday, April 4. We received official confirmation the week before last (i.e. Mike Lazzo told us), but we sat on the news in order to let Brendon make the announcement himself during his recent appearance in Atlanta:

Ratings are what drives any decision of this nature. But I'll remind everyone that there was a time when we never dreamed we'd see more Family Guy episodes, either. Home Movies will continue to be a part of the Adult Swim experience, but for now there won't be any new episodes forthcoming.

I also know that Mike Lazzo is in continual discussion with Brendon and the folks at Soup2Nuts about the possibility of new series. We will let you know if anything happens on that front.

=====================
I never really watched the show tell about a few months ago. And I liked it. I am sad to see it go and that I missed out on what seems to be a funny cartoon.

I was just starting to get into it too. Oh well. Maybe it'll get a DVD release. At least they're gonna keep it in reruns.

I really like this show, but it is true that some of the last one of late have been not the best.

I dunno. Ratings are one thing, but you can tell that by this season, the Soup 2 Nuts folks just had nothing left as the episode quality has swung from "good" to "great" (the summer came episode with They Might be Giant) to "unwatchable shit" (the "Grease" homage and one with them trying to keep the dog) so maybe it's time for them to put it to rest.

They already had their resurrection when they made the switch from UPN to CN, and they've already got a new series lined up for Noggin, tho I really really wish "Saddle Rash" had gotten picked up after all, as it was damn funny.

That's too bad man. Coach McGuirk is one of the funniest charecters around. Like on the episode last week where he was bartending...funny shit, "Hey, did you kill your wife?" I'm also someone who just started watching this the past year, along with all the other adult swim stuff. I would def buy a home movies dvd and add it to the collection with my aqua teen hunger force dvd.

Yeah, I hadn't seen it in a while, and that was the first ep I'd seen lately. It's got its moments, but maybe it's just that they're aimed at my sense of humor. I'd go for the DVD if they put one out.

Aww man....

I watched this show way back when it was still in Squiggly-Vision on UPN a million and a half years ago. Though I had to put up with a lot of major hiatuses (hiati? What's the plural of that word?!), I really thought (read: hoped) this show could have lasted much longer.

I'd love that DVD set!

You know what'll happen if that happens Brendon? I'll lose my job. You know what'll happen then? I'll probably go back to jail.

Goodbye to McGuirk? As someone who can perform his monologue on tattoos (that's the Chiquita banana!) this news saddens me. Stupid, stupid, tv.

Squidbillies better be BRILLIANT.

P.S. Saddle Rash was the greatest series concept ever.

Didn't the guy who did the voice of the old guy on Saddle Rash die though? I think that's why there were never more episodes. As for Home Movies, well, I never thought it was funny enough to watch.

Never really got into that show ... I started watching because it reminded me of Dr. Katz, but there was never really much there to keep my interest afterwards (although the soccer coach guy DID have his moments).

Well, Waylon Jennings died about the time it first aired (he was one of the guy's in the barbershop and had quite a few funny lines) and he's the only casualty on that cast I *know* about. "Saddle Rash" was rejected by CN, that's basically why they did no more episodes. Every pilot from that time ("Eltingville," the John K HB stuff) never made it to series.

But they DID greenlight "Squidbillies" and "Venture Bros." so make your own judgements about CN's ability to pick a winner.

Saddle Rash and Welcome To Eltingville were great, but I have doubts that the premises could've been stretched out as series. Eltingville had better potential there, but you can only hate on the fanboys for so long, and there really wasn't anything else to it.

The less said about the John K stuff the better. ::shudder::

Venture Brothers has some major potential, though... there's a lot of material to be mined out of the Hardy Boys/Johnny Quest teen pulp mystery genre, and the pilot was twisted enough to make me REALLY interested in where they're going to go with it.
