Now, THAT is something, but what the point of playing a "limited number of conference games" in football? Would the games count in the standings or not? Could they win the conference? Would the games rotate among conference members or would ND only play the high-profile schools? That just seems logistically impossible.

Washington Huskies, 2003 Pac-10 football champs. Coming soon.

I'm guessing they wouldn't actually be competing in the conference, the games wouldn't count toward conference records, and they would fundamentally still be an independent in football. They would only be agreeing to schedule 'x' amount of games against teams within the conference, I guess to give those teams some sort of rub from their tradition.

Exactly. I think this is what they currently do in the Big East. They play 3 or 4 Big East schools each football season just to bring a little exposure/revenue to them, but they are free to schedule whoever else they want. This means that they don't have to spend over half of their season playing conference opponents and can instead play the Florida States and Air Forces of the country.

Well, I guess it figures that this would end up in litigation. 5 Big East schools have sued Miami and Boston College to prevent them from going to the ACC.

Looks like they might have a case to me. Also it says that Miami is going to say yes to the ACC's invitation. Wonder how the court case will delay the move, if it will at all?

According to ESPN, Miami and BC have a month to respond, and then the start of the trial could be up to a year away. Which means that there's no way the ACC will make their proposed 2004 start date. Sounds like the Big East probably has no case, and they're just trying to delay the inevitable and make some money before they split for good.
