On rainy nights, the coelcanth (sp?) fish can be found in the sea. They're easy to spot, look for the big shadow. These fish fetch 15,000 bells at Nooks.
If you see a fish shadow that isn't one of these, simply run around and scare it off. Then, move to another screen, and move back. There will be a new shadow. Repeat until you get a big one. I caught about 8 of them last night using this method.

| #2 Posted on 8.11.02 2153.26 | Ever since my Turnip scam... fishing for long periods is boring... See, I made an extra town (to get the last Nook's upgrade" and I went to visit it. They were BUYING turnips at almost $800 (insane!) a pop.. well, it just happened to be Sunday in my original town, and Joan was selling at 98... Needless to say I made a ton of cash. I did not go all the way... just over the 1 million bells mark (in addition to paying off my last house upgrade) ... so I really do not seem to have to worry about cash much anymore. Plus I usually end up making bells here and there now...
