I had to attend a wedding this afternoon so I taped the game and tried to avoid tv, radio, etc. etc. all day. Of course, a Notre Dame fan ruined the end for me at the reception. Luckily, I was able to let him know how much I enjoyed his team's current slide and their performance against Purdue in retaliation.

Okay, you're leading the #25 team in the nation by 17 with about 2 mins in the 3rd Quarter, and you've just had an awesome defensive stop that is forcing them to punt. Cool, right? Of course, Kentucky pulls out its gun and shoots itself in the foot once again by having 12 men on the field, giving Florida a 1st down and the ball around midfield. Florida would wind up getting a touchdown, but missing a 2-pt conversion leaving the score 21-9 with around 13 mins to play. No prob, right?

UK drives for a bit, but then has to punt it. Florida scores again, and kicks an extra point, so it's 21-16 with about 5 mins left. Kentucky actually moves the ball a little and is eating time off the clock. Jared Lorenzen has been shrugging off Gators all afternoon and either completing wild passes, or getting rid of the ball. Of course, J-Load goes to the well once too often and instead of eating the ball for a sack, or getting the ball out of bounds, he throws an interception on his own end of the field that Florida returns to UK's 2. A few plays and a 2-pt conversion later, Florida now leads 24-21. Now, I would have fired the special teams coach at the end of the 3rd quarter and benched Lorenzen after that interception, but to his credit, Jared leads the 'Cats down for a desperate 50-yard figgie try that is not even close.

So Ron Zook, who's beating off boosters and fans left and right, and starting an 18-year old Freshman who was 18mos old the last time UK actually beat Flordia, just has to sit back and watch Kentucky shoot itself in the foot once again. As if it wasn't painfully obvious before, Florida just OWNS Kentucky in football. I've seen too many close calls and blowouts to think otherwise.

It's going to take awhile to get over this one, and I'm still trying to get over the LSU loss from last year.

The only thing that could make me feel better right now is seeing Tennessee lose to the 'Cocks, and I loathe having to root for that troll Holtz.

Grrrrrrr . . .

It would have helped Kentucky if the receiver didn't trip over his own feet with less than a minute to go at the 30, when he easily could have had another 5-10 yards, which might have given them a shot at the field goal.
And, the pass with 4 and change to go in the 4th had to be the dumbest pass attempt I have ever seen. Take the sack with the lead and let time run off the clock. Even if there is no interception, the clock stopping would have helped Florida.

Sorry.

And sorry. We dodged a serious bullet, though ... South Carolina outplayed us.

Although, really, I thought you had the game pretty much wrapped up; one more score would've done it. Shame on you people; can't win close games. I'll still trade Lorenzen for the clock-management master Casey Clausen any day of the week, though.

If the trend continues I see Kentucky making a big 4th Quarter comeback in the near future because Florida had the same thing happen to them in the Florida-Miami a few weeks ago when Florida gave up 20 point in the last 20 minutes to lose the game.

Kentucky pretty much made their beds when they got smoked in their opener at home vs. Louisville. Heck I didn't even know Louisville has a football team, but don't feel too bad Louisville then went into Syracuse and beat them in the Dome... Go Figure.

What an odd start of the season. So. Cal lost to California in triple OT just to add on to strange outcomes for the year. It's as unpredictable as the NFL.

Honestly, I haven't even paid all that much attention to Basketball preparations yet, but thanks for the reminder!!

Hopefully they'll get it back together for the South Carolina game a week from Thurs.

Thanks for letting me vent a little. Losses like that are just killers. At least I knew while watching it they were going to lose (despite "KNOWING" they were going to lose), because had I watched that live, I probably would have had a heart attack. Watching it knowing the final outcome gave it a horror movie feel of knowing the kill is coming, but not knowing when or how.

Everytime I watch a Vandy replay of the football game during the following week, I still have this little part of my brain that convinces me that we can win this time around...Being a Vandy fan can make you damn near nutty sometimes.

I do have to say, that I LOVE watching UK play this year. J-Lo makes it exciting to say the least.

I went to the game Saturday. Thats the third time I have seen UK play Florida. The first time I went was when Pookie Jones was quarterback and Florida just flat killed us. The second time Billy Jack Haskins was at the helm and Kentucky once again lost to Florida in the fourth quarter by commiting stupid penalties and that infamous bad late game play calling by Bill Curry. The nail in the coffin though was UK's defense giving up big play after big play late in the game.

This time I fully expected for the Cats to get trounced. I was shocked we went up by so much, by the end of the third quarter I turned to my wife and fully predicted the Florida victory. Sadly I was right. Florida owns us in football. I do have to give props to our hometown superstar Arliss Beach who played a hell of a game.

All that said I don't care much for Rich Brooks. I thought Doug Williams would have been a better choice for Kentucky in the long run.

WIENER OF THE DAY! July 6, 2002!

If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

Chuck,

Hoops season is only around 19 glorious days away!

I was playing golf Saturday during the game, but my club has a 9-hole course (we also have an 18-hole course, but it has no facilities and is not nearly as convenient to my house) with the clubhouse near hole 5. So we'd check the score whenever we were near the clubhouse (after 5, after 9, after 14, etc.). It was really disappointing that they couldn't hold on to win the game. That would have been a huge win for Brooks and the program.

Ffej - oddly enough both Haskins (Paducah Tilghman HS) and Jones (Calloway County HS) are from my end of the state. I really liked the idea of Williams as coach, too. But, he probably does need a couple more years of experience at the I-AA level before he's ready.

Seeing as I started with week two, I'd say going nine weeks before my first error is pretty good. Since the 4-5 teams tiebreaker goes to strength of victory, the revised standings go thusly: 7. N. Y. Giants (4-5) 8. Green Bay (4-5) 9.
