It's been nothing but bad news since the "A-Rod on 'roids" news came out.

New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez's brother Joe says A-Rod out 10 weeks

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has a torn labrum in his right hip, in addition to a cyst, both the Yankees and his agent confirmed on Thursday.

But the next step in dealing with the injury appears to be in question.

On Thursday morning, Rodriguez's brother, Joe Dunand, told ESPNdeportes.com in a phone interview that Alex Rodriguez would have surgery to remove the cyst and would be out 10 weeks.

In addition, a source close to the situation told ESPNdeportes.com that the surgery is scheduled for Monday in Colorado.

But Thursday afternoon, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the three-time AL MVP will be treated conservatively in the hope of avoiding an operation. Cashman said that if surgery is needed, Rodriguez would be sidelined for four months.

Considering how durable A-Rod's been over the years, this is a pretty huge story. I think it only gets bigger if the new-look Yankees actually take the division by storm in his absence. And with the new additions, I don't doubt that they will.

I just saw something that said he's only taking the WBC off now and if he needs surgery after that, it would be 4 months on the DL.

How long until Bill Simmons makes the "MJ's gambling suspension/minor league baseball experiment" comparison to A-Rod conveniently needing major surgery on the heels of his steroid admission?

I expect it to come on the next podcast.

That was the first thought I had upon hearing word of the injury and that the initial time frame had it around the 50 game mark.

That certainly would be interesting but I don't see that happening. Even if Burnett and C. C. live up to expectations, which I'm not sold on to begin with, their offense is pretty weak without A-Rod. As unlikely as it may seem I think the Yankees struggling and then A-Rod saving the day is more likely than the Yankees striving without A-Rod.

What I wonder about more than missing 10 weeks, because it isn't really that long when you factor in the first 4 are still spring training anyway, is could this be the beginning of A-Rod breaking down? Maybe he won't play another 10 years and break all kinds of records like everybody thought.

Any fan who arrives after the first inning or leaves before the ninth. Fess up, Dodgers fans. Half of you pull that shit. I've long said that it doesn't feel like spring until Nomar, Wood and Prior are all out of action.
