A couple weekends back I was flipping through the cable guide and found a show about gangs. It caught my eye because it was about gang violence in St Louis and since that's where I'm originally from I thought it might be interesting. It really wasn't and the two gangs they covered were ones I'd never even heard about although they made them sound like they were the biggest threats in St Louis history. The show didn't explain how they got so dangerous when their turf was about four blocks in north city.
During the show they kept calling St Louis by two nicknames: the 314 and Hustle City. Ok, so I'll cut them some slack on the 314 thing. I've never actually heard anyone call it that, but I'll let it slide since it is conceivable that someone could call it that. But Hustle City? They said St Louis is called that because of the large number of hustlers there.
Ok, so my question is, has anyone ever actually heard St Louis referred to as Hustle City?
Walked by 46th Street and Second Avenue today. They're actaully redoing a plaza, but it looks like a vacant lot because they've got wooden barriers and fencing up. Someone wrote "Roland Deschain was here" on the wood.
