I'm asking this question because I never kept up with the WCW while David Flair was there , but did he do the patented
Nature Boy "whip into the corner , head first , flip over the top rope , run the apron " bit while he was there ?

The reason I'm asking , he recently had two Nashville appearances and has attempted this twice and both times it sucked . Hey it was cool back in the day because you always knew it was coming whenever The Nature Boy stepped in the ring , but his kid just does a piss poor job of pulling it off and he really should take it out of the play book .

Actually that was the first time I had seen him wrestle , because like I said , I just never could stomach WCW during that era , but was he really that bad back then ?

I know Charles Robinson used to do it - so I would assume David did it a few times as well. I don't remember off the top of my head, but I generally made frequent trips to get a snack when he was on TV.

For that matter when did it lead to anything but the person who does it getting a clothesline or a boot? A friend of my wife's just gave me a couple of the Best of WCW/NWO series. Some interesting stuff on there (it was nice seeing Scott Steiner when he was still able to do a standing frankensteiner), but one of the two things that struck me from the tapes, was that even back in 1988/1989 Flair (in a match with Funk) did the Flair Flip and still got clocked.

Even back in 1979/1979 Flair got clocked after the Flair flip. That's just how the move works. I don't think he ever hit a top-rope move either.

Those spots work well in a half-hour match. It's just when he had to work the "5 minutes and hit your spots match" that the fact that his signiture spots are bumps kind of stood out.

David Flair didn't do a whole hell of a lot in WCW. His first gimmick was "this guy completely sucks and is only U.S. champ because he's Flair's kid," so all he did in his matches was have people no-sell his offense, bump, and have people run-in. Then he turned into psycho David Flair, and mostly hit people with crowbars and did a lot of dumb skits.

What are the chances they'll bring him in for the "Undertaker persuades Flair to say yes to WM match" storyline? Seems like a natural for Taker to torture him while Dad watches in horror or something like that, but since I know zip about the kid, I'm wondering.

YES HE DID!

I remember at Slamboree 1994 he defeated Barry Windham with a top rope body press.

And I saw a Thunder in early '99 where he hit a double axehandle onto Disco Inferno.

I'm sure he's hit far more. I guess you gotta have him hit one or two - otherwise it'd be silly for him to go up. ;-)

I wasn't able to catch the NWA/WCW until around 1988/1989 when our local cable company picked up TBS. I had assumed that at some point Flair actually had successfully hit something thing off of that. I even thought I had seen him do it, but thinking back, I think that what I may be thinking of was him making it to the other turnbuckle, but running into one of his other trademarks. The "I'm going to let you press/body slam me off of the top rope" thingie.

Man, and people give Angle and Bubba Ray grief for going back to the top/middle ropes to try and hit their respective moves.

I hope there was a time when Flair could at least claim to have legitimately have won (with consistency) with the Figure Four. (I don't think McMahon really counts does he?)

Actually never mind with the last point. I mentioned Terry Funk above and I seem to remember Funk losing to Flair in "I quit" match at one of the Clash's when Flair slapped on the Figure Four.

I'm almost sure that he hit it against Steamboat in February '89, but had it countered in May.

I thought the rule was that Flair can only hit top rope moves as a babyface, but as a heel he eitrher misses or gets tossed off the top rope.

While watching WCW I tried very, very hard to watch the fewest number of David Flair matches possible. Words truly, truly cannot express how much this kid sucked. Seriously. Liked it when he lost to Benoit, though.
I don't specifically remember David Flair ever going off the top rope. Then again, against some of the better wrestlers (the Benoits and Malenkos) he rarely got any serious offense in by himself. He had a lot of help from his dad and from Arn Anderson.

His stint as the psycho, teaming with Crowbar, was notable mostly for him getting chokeslammed to HELL by The Wall. LOL! I mean, I gotta hand it to David, he can certainly take a few vicious bumps.

Before he became a mega-heel, Flair won with the Figure-Four fairly regularly.

Finishers were a little different back then, though. Not every wrester really had one, and many times they often weren't successful in the big matches. The only time you'd see them work was against jobbers. Gradually, this changed.

What I used to think was cool was that every time someone would decide to take on Flair, they'd take some time to "master the Figure Four" and often would use it in matches leading right up to their shot at the Nature Boy. I think this happened in almost every region during the old days.

Bill Savage went over to the (Stu Hart) house and one of the Hart kids was running around with his hair wet. Savage asked why his hair was wet. Stu said, "The little bastard broke a vase this morning, so I stuck his head in the toilet. Want me to show you again?"

The David Flair/Taker idea is quite a good one, so long as Dangerous Dave doesn't turn on his dad at Mania...If you see a guy in a ski mask running down the aisle on March 17th, you heard it here first.

Would seem to be the obvious choice to have Taker hurt David..
David in WCW was funny at times.
He knew he couldn't do shit and they played off it.
His time with Crowbar and stuff was cool too..
He would get supplexed all around and just try his dad's spots..
From a wrestling pov however he was terrible.

Ric Flair hit the toprope moves and the figure 4 when he was a face..same for the chops.
If he was a heel, esp in late WCW everybody no sold them moves..
Btw..did people ever notice only a few guys do a good flair flip?
HBK and HHH did good ones..Chyna used it a few times.

Since everyone else seems so have gone off on a tangent...yes, Pheadfred...I'm 99% positive I've seen David Flair do the Flair Flip on TV.

It's been two weeks since Kurt Angle's heel turn. After reading the Smackdown Spoilers, it looks like he still hasn't explained his master plot to tie everything together.
