As a latino, I do note the irony in that I'm far more offended in the Lopezes trying to 'clean up' one of my all-time favorite characters than the 'racist' original character itself. Really, what was so bad about Speedy that we can't show to kids these days? So he said some catchphrases in spanish and wore a getup siimilar to Cantiflas (a famous mexican comedic actor). That's racist? They are way too sensitive these days then. And I don't even buy the slowpoke rodriguez character as racist either. The joke was that both mice were total oppisites in speed and attitude. It's like saying that the baby chicken that was a nerd was offensive to certain people because he was the total oppisite of Foghorn Leghorn. Though I get the feeling based on these peoples dumbass logic, Foghorn himself would be offensive to southerners because Isay, Isay he talk a certain way.
I like George Lopez. Appearently, I'm one of the very few that likes him. His sitcom was corny, but decent. And he does some underrated standup, IMO. But he'll lose my respect if he butchers the character like it sounds he's going to do.

It's always been my understanding that it wasn't just Slowpoke Rodriguez. Any time Speedy interacts with another mouse, he is impliedly slow and lazy, and a lot of the time the other mouse looks drunk. Countless drunken siestas and whatnot. None of this ever bothered me because I don't look for political correctness in my cartoons, especially not cartoons born in the 50s. But I can at least understand why some people found parts of the Speedy Gonzales cartoons borderline offensive.

I couldn't tell, but apparently either way he's going to be a race car driver. That's,..., that's,..., I don't even know what to say about that, actually.
"We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s -- the racist Speedy," said the comedian's wife Ann Lopez, who will serve alongside him as a producer.
Isn't her husband's entire comedy routine just a bunch of jokes about Mexicans? What's the difference?
"All RAW is these days is a cheap version of Saturday Night Live, so if you wanna tune in to watch the amazing star power of Al Sharpton and Nancy O'Dell, go ahead! Who's gonna host next week, Big Bird? Wow, that's must-see TV!" - John Morrison (10/16/09 Smackdown!)

Yeah, wouldn't this be like Carlos Mencia calling somebody out for using Mexican stereotypes as entertainment? And he's not even Mexican.
I've been getting IJ into Looney Tunes and we just had our first viewing of a Speedy Gonzalez-episode, and it was one with his cousin. I'll admit I was thinking "hmmm, should I say anything about this to my 7-year old, because DAMN - they just put that out there didn't they?"
Holy fuck shit motherfucker shit. Read comics. Fuck shit shit fuck shit I sold out when I did my job. Fuck fuck fuck shit fuck. Sorry had to do it....

Revenge of the Sith = one thumb up from me. Fuck shit. I want to tittie fuck your ass. -- The Guinness. to Cerebus
He's very steoreotypically drawn in his first cartoon (the one that won the oscar) and then changed to the design everyone knows in the second and subsequent ones.

It's the old "we can use it, but you can't" double standard.
Either way, I always thought Speedy was more of a positive 'role model' if you will, because he was ALWAYS wanting to get things done, and done faster. He's the poster boy for middle management.
A steroid movie on steroids about guys on steroids who think they're master criminals. I can't stress enough that Mark Wahlberg is enormous in this. He's so jacked up, he's gigantic.
