SkyDome to be renamed Rogers Field
I remember being in awe when I first walked in there in 1989, and just a few years later, feeling like I was in one of those abandoned malls where you can hear every individual voice or someone walking.
The past couple of years SkyDome's grown on me, though. I've been able to witness the roof opening on two occasions, which is a very impressive sight from inside the facility.
I'm curious about the new screen setup.| Promote this thread! | | JoshMann

I guess to call it BellExpressVu Park wasn't really an option. Although The Skydome at Canadian Tire Yards has a nice ring to it.

So the Leafs are moving there? I've never heard of a baseball game playing in a "Centre". "So-and-so Field at Rogers Centre", I could see, I guess.
Of course, if they are going to keep those goofy unis they might as well play at a stadium with a goofy name.

The Argonauts will be there until their new field is built at York University (2007?), and as well, it's been home to conventions, concerts (horrible acoustics), religious services, two Wrestlemanias so far, and an infamous hotel. | Bullitt

It's the site of so many great baseball memories for me; my first game, spending a few weekends staying at the hotel and watching three games with my family, Bobby Knopp throwing a ball to me in the stands, getting Jack Morris' autograph just before he went into the hotel with a hot young blond chick, my friends and I getting John Rocker traded from Atlanta and basically ending his career in baseball, etc. Sure, it's not a great park, but there isn't anything really "wrong" with it. It just had the unfortunate distinction of being the apex of the multi-purpose stadium era right before the retro-ballpark boom began.
I'm more excited about the fact that Jays owner Ted Rogers promised to put $210 million in payroll into the Jays over the next three years. I'll believe it when I see it, but hey, it's a start.

I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff Leo McGarry insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town: touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you? One last thing: while you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the Ignorant Tight-Ass Club, in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits." --- President Jed Bartlett, The West Wing | The Goon

It's unbelievable how bad that timing was, eh?

The SkyDome, er, Rogers Centre still has about a million cool points over the new Comiskey, er, USCellular Field though. At least the stadium in Toronto was built in 1989, while Comiskey was built in 1991, which was a year before the retro ballpark boom began when Camden Yards opened in 1992. I'll bet Reinsdorf is still kicking himself for that one... | Oliver

hehehe....the atmosphere is cold because nobody really can afford tickets to pro sports anymore.
I've attended four events at the 'Dome...two WWF events in 2001, an Argos game, and a Blue Jays game...and the only thing I can remember was getting sick, looking up at the dome when it was closed.
That, and that there were always McDonalds there, within a hundred feet of each other, all charging too much for their food.
