According to McPaper today, the new Friars stadium is 1/3 done and "on schedule" to open in 2004.
And if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you.

I wonder if that attitude would continue if the 2004 season and their new stadium was threatened.

I'm sure he wouldn't have been so vocal about it, but if you look at how much he has dumped into the Padres (well over $100 million), $5 million extra won't kill him.
If it wasn't for the damn obstructionist lawyers and NIMBY's here in San Diego, the new stadium would have been done in time for this season. I'm sure they are all waiting for the threatened strike so they can all say, "I told you so!" BASTARDS!!!

What's funny is that I've lots of complaints from people who went to Comicon that didn't know about the stadium construction and the nightmares it's causing with traffic down by the convention center. Stupid idiots.

Well, I have never driven in SD, any of the four times I went out for the Comicon. Heck, I've never even been to the Zoo or Balboa Park. Just to the Con, the Murph to see the Friars and TJ for the lucha.
