Come on how many people would buy a wwe t shirt if it didn't have something stupid written on the back.

I know i would buy a rey one if it didn't say lincense to fly and would buy a goldberg symbol if it didn't say who's next at the the back who's with me here

Hey, a WWE shirt's not complete unless it says "ASS" in 72 point type somewhere on the back.

I think a major problem is that WWE still thinks of their core audience as rebellious teenagers (also known as dumbasses), and haven't realized that the audience that made them so successful have matured.

I also think the same thing happened during the 1993-96 dark ages, as the kids who made WWF populare were becoming teenagers.

In short, I think the WWE should market to the same group of people that they did during their peak years, just in a different way.

I think the first step is to eliminate all the ridiculous innuendo.

I mean, someone would buy a shirt that says "I Want Trish Stratus to perform oral sex on me".

I totally agree. There was a reason the original nWo shirts sold so well (I still wear my nWo Syxx-ball shirt), and why I have still yet to see anyone wearing the new Trish Stratus shirt with "BLOW ME" written in big bold letters on the front.

Actually I have a WWE/F shirt like that. It was a K-Mart and it was the STONE COLD UNIVERSTY shirt. With with the "Class of 3:16" on the front instead of the back like from ordering it from the company. So anyways the only thing it had on the back was the old scratch logo.

wear a shirt over it. 'nuff said. heh. I do that with my V1 shirt, Jericho Highlight Reel shirt, and sometimes with my Team Angle shirt. But the Team Angle shirt is alright since it's not too cheesy. *looks down and realizes he's wearing it right now* Nope.

Same with the Jericho "I'm the King of the World" shirt. I know people who've complimented me on it who aren't even wrestling fans.

But a good chunk of the shirts are pretty cheesy. Especially the "Blow Me" one. Not a big fan of the "Freedom of Choice" shirt either. But that's just me.

I gotta agree with the comment about WWE's core audience maturing and they need to realize that.

Hey, the innuendos on t-shirts are cool. Just ask the Big Show. His speech about them was one of the highlights from Smackdown a week or two ago.

The new Trish shirt still baffles me, who did they expect to buy that shirt? I talk to Trish fans. The Females who'd buy anything Trish was not going to buy something like that. Male's who respect the character wouldn't buy a shirt that seems degrading. This just leaves casual/non fans who won't buy a diva shirt no matter what innuendo is on it, & considering 90% of WWE shirts have innuendo, they can get one from anybody. I guess WWE was going for the ever so important mothball demo... What's even more insulting is that they pretended in wanting fans opinion & the 2 options were "blow me" & "I've just been blown". Nice democracy WWE has here, why not have a distinct non-idiotic shirt? Were they worried that her fans would vote for the non-innuendo shirt & then actually buy their merchandise when it comes out. Better not have that, WWE knows best. Even if they they exclude her most probable buyers

The Evolution shirt looks like it had potential for me to buy, nice logo in front and all. But once you turn to the back and see "Made, Paid and Laid". I'm like, Okay I ain't buying this one... I still think APA is the worse with Always Pounding Ass? Who on earth would wear that?

Vanilla, that's funny that you mention the BigShow. It's funny when he cut that promo to sell his T-shirt because I can actually imagine some community college reject pimple faced geek working in the WWE marketing/Merchandise department. Spending his existence thinking up lame play on words or innuendo. Then when he gets one he goes around so proud saying "Get it, get the play on words heheheh. Ain't it clever"... Without thinking if it actually fits with the character or if it will actually sell. D-X worked because of the group, not because it says S*ck It. Stop trying to recreate that by throwing innuendos that don't even make sense to who the shirt represents. Look at the other shirts that sold well, Austin 3:16, Brahma Bull, NWO, Classic-Y2J. All simple and representable to the superstar and get rid of these losers who pat themselves in the back cause they came up with an innuendo.

You know, I think that if Shopzone switched to an "Online Special Order" model, with fans able to design their own shirts, they'd probably move more merchandise. As for the ones they sell in the arena...oh well.

I just think people should have the option of buying just a "logo" tee, with no catchphrase on the back. Most wrestlers with logos have nice ones, and I'm sure wrestling fans would buy at least one piece of their favorite wrestler's merchandise, if they had the option of the subversive and understated logo tee.

Their core market is still rebellious teenagers. The problem is that the WWE is not giving them the stars they want.

I forgot. Did they have an Austin What? T-shirt, I'm pretty sure they did, it said what on the front but I don't know what it had on the back, maybe a skull? Anyway I would have said they sell like hotcakes but I don't think they are on sale anymore. Austin has really played down the What thing since he came back in February. I don't think he has said it himself in ages.

I don't think WWE have made a good t-shirt since they changed their name. Off the top of my head I have a WMX7 jersery and t-shirt, Austin 3:16, Rock Brahma Bull logo t-shirt, Triple H I am the game t-shirt, Triple H I am your pain t-shirt, Triple H The game jersey, Hardyz basketball jersey and the Hardyz 2Xtreme t-shirt. My brother got the Y2J Shut the hell up and Rock It doesn't matter shirts which are just awful. I like just logos that mean nothing or something to do with an event you've been at or cool graphic shirts (i.e. Triple H I am your pain). Some of the Triple H shirts that have come out over the last year are OK but nothing like his 2000/2001 merchandise heyday.

And about the Blow Me shirt. If Trish doesn't wear it thats pretty much a bad sign.

("Subversive"?)

The most beautiful beautiful side-effect of an "Online Special Order" model is that you have an intrinsic feedback system demonstrating just exactly what people do want to buy. What actually sells through that mechanism is what people want. If people buy plain logo T-shirts, then it would be pretty tough for the teen-geek in the marketing department to continue to push for crass slogan shirts. If some of each sell, that's fine, produce some of each for sale at events. (It certainly should be businesswise cost-effective in the long run to get that kind of feedback for such an important revenue-stream.)

Maybe Carson on Queer Eye had our solution. For the Fuse VJ guy, he took one of the guy's favourite (but ratty) Tshirts, cut out a panel with the main image, & sewed it onto the back of one of the guy's worn jeans jackets. (Thus saving the important part of the ratty T, & making the comfy jacket into something interesting.) The guy loved it. Maybe we're all supposed to buy WWE merch just to cut it up & adorn our real clothing.

Someone who loves unintentional innuendo? Or those who obsessed with Bradshaw in the shower? (shrug) No one said there's a GOOD reason they're called "marketing geniuses".

So tonight*, HHH is wearing a Tshirt that I don't remember seeing before: "No Hype Necessary" (shopzone.wwe.com)

While I'm there, I happen to notice there's a new Flair shirt packaged with his DVD: "Woooo" (shopzone.wwe.com)

The Flair one isn't bad at all. (I swear somebody in this thread suggested a plain "Woooo" shirt, but I don't see the post.) And the HHH one isn't embarassing & is applicable in other contexts as well -- that's something! I might even have to get that one. (Although a ladies' version, in purple, would be better.) :-)

True progress, or just a temporary teaser?

* "tonight": Yeah, I didn't get a chance to watch Raw til Tuesday night. You knew what I meant. :-)
