With the massive weekend this just had in the US, I'm kinda surprised there's no thread for it yet.

In short, it's pretty brillaint and a strong contender for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars.  I'm still partial to Brave myself, but Wreck-It Ralph does some very impressive things.  Not the least of which is finally delivering a satisfying video game steeped movie.  It's not a perfect film, but it's a helluva lot of fun.

Here's my spoiler-free review (despite it not seeing a UK release until bloody February) at londonfilmfanatiq.com.

I found it a little hard to swallow...ARCADES???

This was a good lil' movie. Had a lot of really good cameos and inside jokes for older games that was a pleasant surprise. Any gave that features Tapper as a scene setting earns my respect.

I think they blew an opportunity by not making actual Fix-It Felix Jr. machines and putting them in every theater.

They did an iOS version of the game.

Actually, they did make up a few. They might not be in every theater, but the Atomic Arcade in Salt Lake City had one for about a week.

I wasn't happy with the movie. As heavily as it was promoted with the retro theme, most of it was played out in the fictional girly "Sugar Rush". I thought there were more food references than games.

I realized this was a kids movie going in, but I guess not to this level.

This Pixar fanboy votes Wreck-It Ralph, which was the most impressive thing Disney has done in forever. Coupled with the awesome short beforehand, I enjoyed it much more than expected and definitely more than Brave (which was good.) Of course, having John Lasseter's name literally on the production makes a big difference; Disney is now in good hands.

I liked Wreck-It Ralph an awful lot. I thought it was funny and charming with a great side romance between Calhoun and Felix.

The short Paperman was also ridiculously good. Not quite as good as La Luna or as good a companion piece to the film it was attached to as La Luna was for Brave, but still very very good.

Because I'm weird, I found hidden depths in Wreck-It Ralph.

If you've seen the film, this article about the hidden elements of Taoism in the film may (hopefully) blow your mind (or more likely I'm an idiot):

If you haven't seen the film, that article is SPOILERRIFIC. So maybe watch the film first before you read the article and call me an idiot.

I get what you are saying. I would have preferred to go inside nothing but actual games. I'm guessing that would have required more royalties. Also it would have been hard to work into the script. If you don't have Sugar Rush, how do you have Venelope?

Since we had no power - AGAIN (thanks LIPA) - I took the kids to Wreck It Ralph today and while it was not my favorite animated movie, I did like it alot and all four of my kids (ages 7-14) liked it.

It was well worth the money. Big thumbs up.

I enjoyed the movie until we met Sarah Silverman's character. I found her bratty and unsympathetic.

Also- product placement. I found it so jarring to see a Subway cup in a Disney animated movie.

(the real life toys in Toy Story were a more natural fit)
