I need you guys to settle a debate between my friend and I. I think No Holds Barred was by far the worst wrestling movie ever made. I dont think there was one good performance in it. Now, Ready To Rumble was pretty bad, but I think NHB wins because any movie with Hogan as the lead can't possible be good. Oliver Platt wasnt so bad in RTR if you consider what he had to work with.

So, since there isnt much interesting news lately, I leave this debate in the hands of you guys.

Ready to Rumble broke kayfabe. It's worse.

Plus, it led to DAVID ARQUETTE, WCW CHAMPION.

Nothing's worse than that.

I'll admit - I liked RTR, but I can't really find anything good about NHB. I merely considered NHB to be a Hogan ego vehicle, whereas RTR probably wouldn't have been so bad if the lead actor (in Arquette) didn't win the WCW title afterward.

So, while both are cinematic turkeys, I'd rather rent Ready To Rumble anyday over No Holds Barred.

Tap out to your friend - it's a tie between "Ready to Rumble" and "Body Slam."

The only saving grace for Ready to Rumble is the Nitro Girls. The No Holds Barred movie was not overly bad, it was a classic VKM "E:True Hollywood Story". Body Slam did combine WWF, NWA, and AWA atars at the time, so historically it is the most important of the three.

Yeah, Body Slam was a god-awfuul movie. All of them sucked, but Body Slam did not have the backing of a large worldwide wrestling company. So I'll put Body Slam a little ahead of the two.

Ready to Rumble was BY FAR the worse movie. Forget that it was a "wrestling movie" and it still lowers standards for the entire film industry.

I'm not saying No Holds Barred was a cinematic classic or anything, but it's one of numerous cheezy 80's movies that you can look back on now and laugh at. Plus, if you were ever a Hulkamaniac, you can look back and remember a time were Hogan wasn't just a selfish old man (he was a selfish young man, but still). And I always laugh at Hogan's badly-acted line "I don't want your money, Mr. Brell". I hear any of the lines in R2R, I just groan....

Besides, the worst wrestling movie of all time is The Jesse Ventura Story, hands down.

Ready To Rumble wins the contest because it exceeded my already low expectations for sucking. I at least expected to laugh a few times, and I didn't.

NHB was pretty bad, but I at least laughed at it. I was more entertained by the movie than RTR.

I'm assuming NONE OF YOU have seen a movie called "Hammerhead Jones". This is a movie so bad it doesn't even have its own IMDB listing and it is barely acknowledged that this movie ever existed. THAT'S how bad it is, and it makes Body Slam and No Holds Barred look like Godfathers 1 and 2.

I haven't, but I'd love to, just because of the title alone :). Who's in it?

I also thought of another good, er, bad one this morning: Bad Guys, from the early 80's, natch, with Sgt. Slaughter and other AWA folks in cameo roles.

I say 'Ready to Rumble' just for the simple fact that 'No Holds Barred' was out during the grand days of kayfabe.

It's a hard movie to try and dig up facts on, since me and about 7 other people on earth know of its existance. The only time I ever saw it was on HBO at about 4 am over a decade ago and I've never seen it since.

But the lead/writer was a guy by the name of Ted Vernon, who incidentally now (thanks to me doing about 5 minutes worth of fact-checking dot org) runs an auto detail shop in South Florida. He also claims to have been a wrestler at one point, although I grew up going to territory shows at the MBCC and don't remember him at all. Although best way to describe him at the time would be to say he looked like one of the Vachons.

I'm reaching back into the far end of my memory for this, but essentially it was about a wrestler, an evil promoter, and a (VEEEERY KAYFABED) climatic final match between him and South Park Satan. But unbelivably cheesy and the action sequences are unintentionally hilarious.

While I haven't seen Ready To Rumble, I agree with Canadian Bulldog- No Holds Barred at least gave some unintentional hilarity (isn't that the best kind?). Looking back on it now, you wonder "how can anyone think this was a good idea?"

I'd say Body Slam was worse than No Holds Barred, and The Jesse Ventura Story worse than ALL, if only because of the NUMEROUS continuity mistakes and just blatantly wrong facts and timelines.

Hmmm...

On the one side, we have Hulk Hogan, Tiny Lister, and Kurt Fuller.

On the other, David Arquette, Oliver Platt, Martin Landau, and Joe Pantoliano.

Vote goes to No Holds Barred, because Ready to Rumble could have been funny, if not entertaining.

And the best wrestling film has to go to "All the Marbles", which was a dramatic feature looking at the difficult world of women's wrestling.

Agreed, although my opinion may be skewed since I'm watching Columbo during my lunch break.

Guess I'll be the one to say it: "Ready To Rumble" was nowhere near as bad as I expected going in.

THANK YOU!!

I have been racking my brains to think of the name of this movie. This is one of thw worst movies I have ever seen. Ugh. I can still see the dual sunset flips in the climatic title bout. Just awful!

What about that Slyvester Stallone movie where he trains his slow brother to wrestle? Actually it was funny from a pure camp view. Plus it had the Funks in it.
