The most confusing thing to me is that while there have been talks all week of a White Sox-Phillies deal, it involved Philly sending Aaron Rowand back to Chicago. The Sox want him back in the worst way from what I've heard.
From a Phillies perspective, is this still one block of a larger overall deal?

Thank god that rumor seems to have been shot down. If they traded Garland for Taveras and Buchholz I might have killed the next person who walked by.

As a Phillies fan, I'm excited.
Floyd might be a late bloomer, but I doubt it. The Phils threw just about everybody at him to get him to be a productive pitcher, and it just didn't seem to work out. I know even Johnny Podres worked with him.
Floyd's problem seems to be that he has the stuff, but he's not mentally tough enough to overcome obstacles on the field. I thought he tended to panic if anything went wrong (and by something going wrong, I mean two men on base, nobody out, nothing Earth shattering), and he seemed to pitch scared. They tossed him to the wolves, and hung with him, but he kept his ERA hovering around 7 until they demoted him.

I believe so, yes. They've got six starters now (Garcia, Lieber, Myers, Hamels, Moyer, and newly acquired Adam Eaton) and I'm sure somebody out there is going to need a starter. I still think Gillick wants to get rid of Burrell in left, and he wants to strengthen the bullpen. Maybe somebody would be interested in Burrell and Lieber (or Burrell and somebody else) for an outfield bat or a good reliever or both. They supposedly did well in the Rule 5 draft today, so maybe they just need a bat, though I'm uncomfortable with the current bullpen the Phillies have.
Talk is that negotiations with Milwaukee regarding a Lieber/Kevin Mench and some reliever deal have cooled a bit.
