I didn't know how to phrase this very well, but has anyone picked up a radio station that was exactly local to you?

Last week at night in my car I was able to get WBAL out of Baltimore while driving in southern Connecticut. I remember picking up NY's WFAN when I was back in Maine.

I the future I imagine cars will be able to stream internet broadcasts so it won't matter as much if you are in range of the signal.

You can pick up distant 'high power' stations on the AM band at night. I've listened to KOA Denver as far east as Indiana.

In my childhood up in Alaska, my sanity came from distant AM stations in Vancouver, Victoria, Portland...

My parents have at one point picked up TV stations from Cheboygan, MI and South Bend, IN; which are respectively 200 and 170 miles from them. The farthest channels they can get consistently are in Milwaukee, which is 60 miles away.

In Calgary, AB, at night, I can pick up KFBK from Sacramento, CA.

I enjoy listening to it from time to time when I'm on the road during the evenings - I just get a kick out of the talk radio from a different market.

Once while driving at night in eastern Iowa I'm pretty sure I picked up the local feed of whatever station broadcasts University of Kentucky basketball.

As a kid, I remember late nights at my grandparents' house in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.

I was able to listen to Cardinals games on KMOX from St. Louis.

Here on Long Island, I'm able on most clear nights to get WFED 1500 news from Washington DC. WFAN and WCBS channels I have heard as far away as southern New Hampshire and upstate NY (near Rochester). In fact, the most distant station signal I've gotten is when I went to school upstate. I got signals from Pittsburgh, Toronto, and even a Chicago Bulls game one time.

I've gotten WFAN a couple nights here, just buzzing through the AM dial, living in upstate NY, near Syracuse. Talk radio out of Montreal a couple times as well, Philly every so often, and once, years and years ago, a Fort Wayne Komets game.

The best was driving home one night, and getting engrossed in this debate over the state of local schools. 10 minutes in, I'm wondering why I've never heard of any of these schools. The debate was from fricking BOSTON.
