With The Avengers still breaking box office records, I'm getting more and more excited at the prospects of Avengers 2, starring Thanos. (He should negotiate that as the title a la Brock Lesnar.)

I re-read The Infinity Gauntlet, which is still awesome and my favorite Marvel story of all. Then I wrote up a little piece about Thanos.

I love Thanos thiiiiisss much. (backofthehead.com)

I hadn't read a lot of the classic Thanos stories. Yes, I need to track down The Infinity Gauntlet, ASAP. I did, however, read the recent Thanos Imperative and it was deliciously awesome!

The Thanos Imperative pretty much boiled down to "When you need an apocalyptic genocide NOW, just call Thanos." Thanos' role in that story supports your great piece that much more.

There's no possible way Avengers 2 will do him justice. The limited film structure makes it nearly impossible.

I love Infinity Gauntlet so much that I bought the statue when it came out and it is an absolutely beautiful depication of the Marvel Universe. Gauntlet was the first mega series I collected thus it will always hold a special place in my heart. Even with that biased, I still think its the best Marvel story told in the last 20 years.

Thanos is the only villain by himself that I think can take on the Avengers. I just hope they add his love interest in Avengers 2. I may pick up the Thanos Imperative if its half as good Gauntlet, I am in.

The title of this thread is spoiling the after-credits, isn't it?

Shit.

Infinity Gauntlet is great, but you gotta start with Thano's Quest before reading it or else you miss half the story. How he gets the Infinity Gems is just as awesome. Jim Starlin really did wonders with Thanos.

I'd also suggest Starlin's Thanos solo series and Marvel: The End.

How so? I admit the contents of the thread and my Back of the Head piece spoil The Avengers credits. But how does this thread title do so? It's in Print, it has the Marvel tag, and there's no mention of The Avengers movie in the thread title.

Well, let's be fair ... Is there any "need" to talk about Thanos outside of the fact that the Avengers movie is currently in theaters? There's no real "need" to bring up the character unless he somehow factors into what is (more than likely) the biggest pop culture event of the year.

Of course, I don't currently follow Marvel continuity in the comics too closely, so perhaps I prematurely made the leap from Thanos the comic book character to Thanos the potential movie antagonist ... but you can see how that could happen, right?

The title is a joke, it's a parody on the movie title "We Need To Talk About Kevin."

I'm gonna go ahead and say PROPHESY~! I mean, it wasn't Avengers 2, but it worked out pretty damn well for Avengers 3 and 4.
