From Meltzer/Observer site:

"UPN sent word today to WWE after all the negative media publicity stemming from last week's show that they didn't want the Muhammad Hassan character on this week's show.

WWE had planned a storyline change for Hassan tonight in Worcester after the storyline involving terrorists from last week backfired.

So now what? Vince gets all pissed that someone dares tell him what to do, and they make Hassan come out and claim that "UPN is racist" against him?

Either that, or Vince caves in, and I silently curse UPN for butting in where its huge proboscis doesn't belong.

I'm actually gonna be happy when UPN cuts Smackdown loose next year and USA picks them up. It'll result in so many good things, like not having to deal with network bullshit like this.

I totally agree. Smackdown on USA could be the best thing.

So what's the worst that UPN can do if Vince says 'screw you'? Will they take Smackdown off the air? And if so, won't they be breaching WWE's contract with them?

I imagine UPN would simply edit Hassan out themselves if Vince tried to ignore them.

I thought it was a pretty nasty/tasteless angle last week, so I dont think keeping Hassan off TV for one week isnt such a bad idea, especially if WWE already feels that last week's terrorist storyline backfired.

Heck, I think UPN should do us a favor and insist upon Hassan being gone from WWE entirely, so we don't have to deal with his crappy wrestling anymore.

OK, I'm kidding. But what did Vince think was going to happen, anyway? What was the best possible outcome of this storyline, in his mind?

Or, Hassan can bring out Paul Bearer shockingly alive trapped in a block on concrete from the neck down and behead him.

Might not be such good news for an already struggling Smackdown PPV though. I'm wondering if this deal prohibits mentioning Hassan's name or the entire situation last week at all.

You could ask the same thing about the necrophilia angle or the gay wedding/lesbian beatdown angles. It's like they think they can trot out somethng controversial and everybody will love it and no one will come down on them for it.

What WWE wants is to generate a controversy where a minority of critics only fuel the popularity of it. What they haven't figured out is that not all controversies go that way, and just because you start a controversy does not entitle you to that exact response from the public.

The problem is that the Attitude Era was their most successful time ever, and if you look back at it objectively, for the most part it was nothing but one penis joke and 'suck it' after another breaking only for some woman to go topless.

After two or three years of that making them nothing but money they've got the idea that 'Offensive Idea = Great Idea'. Sometimes (Katie Vick) it seems like they're just plain shocked that pissing people off doesn't automatically lead them to success.

I couldn't care less if Hassan isn't on the show. Actually I could see an up-side to it as now they might have to announce a fourth (?) match for the PPV and put some time towards a wrestling angle that I won't be embarassed to tell people that I watched.

Does this mean that Daivari is still allowed to come out and badmouth the Taker, thus leading to UT coming out and doing something goofily supernatural to send a message to Hassan?

Hassan has respoded on WWE.com, looks like this was a segment planned for TV that they decided to put on the website in light of the edict from UPN.

It's also the best promo he's ever cut. It actually does a decent job of pushing the character back where it should be from last week's retarded-ass terrorist segment. Pity most people will never see it.

And he says "a reputable source like the New York Post" which is hilarious for so many reasons! Well, one reason. But still hilarious.

I agree. I like how he made the point that no one knew what the people looked like under the masks.

I wish he and Davari would just use the Quebecers gimmick of bragging about their love of America and waving the flag. That would soldify just what kind of gimmick he's playing.

The New York Post is essentially the newspaper equivalent of, say, www.hotwrassinrumors316-4lifeYouCantSeeMe.com, and generally only a few steps away from a tabloid.

I'd say that Hassan has skyrocketed to arguably the #1 heel in the entire company now. With all this mainstream press, I think Vince will have him go over 'Taker (in some fashion) so that Hassan will be one of the Summerslam main events vs. Batista.

What the guy lacks in ring skills, he certainly makes up for with his speaking ability.

That's probably what they'll do, but I shudder to think about how bad a fifteen minute match between Hassan and Batista will be.

I sure hope that this isn't JBL part II. Vince put the belt on Bradshaw after the Goosestep/CNBC firing. A lot of people thought that that was supposed to be a big "f*ck you" to the people giving him all the bad press. He isn't stupid enough to think that Hassan can run with the belt at this point, is he?

WWE is just taking advantage of over half of the country's legit stupid hatred of Arabs and Muslims. It depresses me a lot but I'd say that Hassan will draw in some money.

The prospect of Hassan with the world title is better than the prospect of Bradshaw with the world title was, so I actually think the answer to that question is yes.

Though I don't think Vince will do it. There's more money and publicity to be had in Hassan as the UNITED STATES champion. Plus, it'd fit the current ladder better.
