I can't say I enjoyed it, but I can't say I didn't enjoy it. It has its good points, mainly in the actors and the production design, but I think Total Recall works best the less you recall the original Total Recall.

I make fun of it in my SPOILER filled review. (backofthehead.com)

I liked that it pushed the PG13 rating... people were shown getting killed (even though there was no blood), you saw boobs (prostetic like Mae Young's, I guess), and Beckinsale even drops an F bomb. That's so much better than The Dark Knight Rises and The Hunger Game that zooms or pans away when someone kills someone. Now I'm a bit mad at Len Wiseman for not letting Bruce Willis say "Yippee Kai Yai, Motherfucker" in "Live Free or Die Hard."

The way I've been explaining it to my friends is that the movie is fine. The effects are well done, the acting is good, I enjoyed the action/stunts and the visual aesthetic is a cool cyberpunk one.

The screenplay and plot on the other hand is beyond ridiculous. Within the first 5min of watching it you're already going "WHAT!?"

This may prove to be a great riffing movie with friends when it comes out on dvd.

Damn. You succinctly summarized exactly what I thought.

The problem with a "not bad" film like this is that, were it an original movie, that would be enough. But when you're remaking a beloved action film, blanding it out to a state of "eh, it's okay" is pretty much the same as making an outright bad movie.
