By now most have read or heard Dixie Carter's statement that at Turning Point something will happen to "change the face of the wrestling business."
From everything I've read most folks think its the signing of Chris Benoit. But I don't beleive that's it. Benoit is still under contract and he still has loyalty to WWE and would not do the cold jump. My thought is that they will announce that TNA will start doing house shows. Any other thoughts?

It wouldn't shock me if that was the announcement. However, it would be a disappointment. It's hard to say that a wrestling company doing house shows will "change the face of the wrestling business." They are screwing up if they are hyping that kind of announcement with a hard sale. That said, anyone who thinks that it has anything to do with Benoit are also probably setting themselves up for disappointment.

They signed Christy Hemme!

No, seriously, if it's a free agent, the biggest names available are Jericho and Lesnar.

I really, REALLY don't think it will be Chris Benoit jumping ship because (a) he's in the middle of a high-profile series of matches that I'm guessing will end in a PPV appearance later this month, and WWE surely would have at least kept that in the back of their mind (and yes, I remember the Jeff Jarrett incident), (b) I don't think that would change the face of the wrestling business, much as I love Mr. Benoit, (c) Realistically, what opportunity does Benoit have in TNA that he hasn't received in WWE? He's headlined PPV's and probably will again someday. He's headlined WrestleMania. He's still a prominent character on SmackDown. This is not a situation like with Christian, where there was clearly the potential to be a bigger star.

Ugh.... watch their big surprise be hauling Larry Zybsko out in a garbage truck at the end of the show...

Considering Scott D'Amore did something similar a few months back during a radio interview heavily hinting at Jericho showing up (even using a Jericho catchphrase by saying something along the lines of "you will never...EEEEEEEver...believe what we have in store"), I wouldn't put TOO much faith into Dixie Carter's statement.

I'm more or less convinced it'll be something not all that surprising, even if it'll make Tenay and West scream (which can also be done by anyone at all entering the ring). Also, she talked about doing the house shows in 2006 during that same interview, so it's not going to be that.

The only thing I can imagine that will change the face of wrestling is some manner of accessing the product: podcasting, surprise shows in high-profile locations, a movie that tries to make one coherent cinematic storyline out of a PPV event, etc.

Anything less is just hype: A new match gimmick, a new wrestler, a new reality-show angle.

I somehow get a gut feeling that the surprise will be the expanding of iMPACT to a 2 hour show.

I really hope it is Chris Jericho, but I doubt it. I do think it will be someone they've signed. Was Bobby Heenan actually signed to a TNA contract?

As far as Lesnar goes, it'll be interesting to see what he'll do after January 4th (his last advertised show for New Japan.

REally, I think expanding to 2 hours is the announcement which is good since it mens they won't be cramming a 2 hour show into 55 minutes anymore and we can get some actual non-squash matches and REAL Main Events.

And two months later, you will all be complaining about how you've seen this or that match up a thousand times, and the product is stale, and this guy cant cut a promo, etc. Stick with an hour, make some better main event matches and give the wrestlers some frieking personality.

I can't stress this enough... to me, this is TNA's biggest shortcoming right now. The matches are fun enough in their own way, but without distinct personalities there is very little drama to their matches. The X Division is particularly bad when it comes to this.

I think the one thing TNA needs right now is a heavily emotional program to reel the fans in. I think they're getting there with the Samoa Joe/A.J. match.

I also think that with the time TNA is allotted, they're using it well. The distinct personalities may not show through week to week, but you have to look at TNA long term. They're slow burning everything, and letting the matches shape the history and the angles. Look at the build Monty Brown has had. We all know he's already lost to Jarrett, but the question they're posing to us is what happens when they face off again. Well worth the blowoff IMO.

Thanks.

I think my problem with TNA is that the really short match times. I mean I feel liek I'm watching the old WCW Saturday show most of the times with guys getting in token offense. Sure the X-Division has some nice stuff but I feel like there is a serious lack of drama. Mind you I'm saying this about Impact! and not their PPV, whcih they actually do a good job at building up both hype and in-ring drama for.

I'd propose a 90 minute show. I think 2 hours is a bit long. More wrestling, more fun, I don't mind it. But 2 hours might cut too close to the bone. You don't want, IMO, to run opposite that last 5 minutes of RAW.... do you?
